“Hello?” Jamie asks again. “Lee, did you fucking butt dial me?”
“Hey,” I croak out. “Where are you? Is Camden with you? He was supposed to study with you, right?”
There’s background noise as he closes a door, and Jamie’s voice comes back.
“Yeah, but he never showed up,” he admits.“I thought it was odd, but figured he forgot to tell me that you were picking him up. Cam is completely wrapped up in you.”
“Then why is he thirty minutes away from school?” I demand. My fingers begin to tap on the screen as I look up who owns the compound and then pull the address up where he’s currently at. The satellite imagery is showing that there are gates, and my heart begins to sink as I can even see men with leather cuts.
I’d recognize the skull on it anywhere.
“I have no idea. Maybe his phone died and he took a drive?”
“Camden wouldn’t do that. He wouldn’t go anywhere without finding a way to let us know.” I snap back.
“Fuck, you’re right. Lee, that doesn’t sound good, man,”Jamie says. “He hasn’t gone that far without you in months. That boy is head over heels for your pack.”
“You’re not fucking helping, Jamie!” I snarl. “Where the fuck is my omega? We need to find him. We need to make sure he’s okay.” I’m losing it now, running a hand through my hair, grabbing at the strands as panic starts to seep in.
“Whatever you do, don’t do anything stupid!”
Jamie’s yelling at me helps me focus through my shortness of breath and anxiety.
“I got this,” I mutter. But do I? The idea of something happening to Cam, after everything he’s been through physically pains me. “I don’t think he’d leave of his own free will either. He’s terrified of his father.”
“Fuck,” Jamie curses. “I’m really sorry. I didn’t think anything was weird about him standing me up.”
My growl gets ignored by the asshole. I may be a beta, but I’m very protective.
“You’re insane, you know that? But the tracker is being put to good use at least,”he sighs. I’m not surprised he figured out how I keep tabs on my omega. “Don’t sound so surprised, I’ve known you were tracking him for a long time. It makes sense after the hospital incident.”
“It fucks with my head if I don’t know where he is. I gotta go,” I say, returning to the library.
“Let me know when?—”
Ignoring whatever else he was going to say, I hang up.
“What did Jamie say? Did you find him?” Brooks asks, getting shushed by one of the crones who works at the desk. Unfortunately, my alpha is on edge and snaps his teeth as we leave.
I’ll smooth things over with her later, after we rescue Cam. I know he wouldn’t go there of his own free will.
Looking at the tracker location again, a sense of dread hits me when I see the address.
“Out with it Lee!” River yells. “Why does my chest hurt so much?”
“He’s at his father’s clubhouse,” I grunt quietly. “We have to?—”
“What?” Brooks slows his steps, shaking his head. “No. That can’t be right.”
“If the tracker is right, that's where he is.” I don’t want to be right. I pray that I’m not.
“It has to be a mistake. It’s wrong. He can’t be there. I’m trying really hard not to jump to conclusions, Lee,” he rasps. “Because if we go over there, it will be a bloodbath. Before, I’d have thought he'd be running back to daddy to spill everything. But I know our omega. He wouldn’t have fucked us over to tell his dad about our business.”
“No he wouldn’t have. I know Camden. He wouldn’t betray us like that.”
My eyes flick over to River, his hand on his chest, face a mask of pain. It kills me to see them like that.
“Look at the satellite images. The place is crawling with people.” I say, showing them my phone.
