Chapter Thirty-Six

SEBASTIAN

Getting a call from Titan at six in the morning really put a damper on my post-orgy bliss. It’s an emergency board meeting about the merger with Carter Holdings, and Dominic is freaking out.

“What if they've decided to dissolve? What are we going to do?”

I give him a look. “I’m gonna need you to calm the hell down.”

“How are you so calm? You want to protect Olivia as much as I do.”

“Of course, I do. But there’s a way to go about it, and flipping out isn’t going to solve anything. Just take my lead.”

Everyone trails into the boardroom slowly, mostly a bunch of old men, a few women scattered around.

Edwards sits at the head of the table. He’s the primary investor, so he holds the highest spot. “I’ve called everyone here to discuss the Carter Holdings merger.”

“Why now?” Dominic asks. “We still have several weeks before we close.”

I kick him under the table, and he winces .

I smile at the man holding the meeting. “We’re not questioning you, Edwards. Just curious.”

Edwards raises an eyebrow but doesn’t say anything.

Maybe I’ve smoothed things over.

“We’ve heard some rumors that Carter Holdings isn’t doing well. Titan policy is to dissolve smaller companies?—”

I glare at Dominic, telepathically telling him not to have an outburst.

He twitches but doesn’t say anything.

Edwards looks at Dominic seriously. “Mr. Hayes, do you think Carter Holdings is a good investment?”

I pray he keeps it together.

“I’m still going through the financials.”

“It’s been weeks. What is your professional opinion?”

Dominic’s throat works.

This is something he has to do, I can’t do it for him. He’s new to Titan, but he’s worked his way up the ranks. Edwards trusts him. He just has to play this right.

“In my professional opinion, I need another week.”

A week? We’re supposed to solve this in a week?

But Edwards needs a deadline, and I guess a week is as good as any.

Edwards nods. “Then you’ll get a week. No longer. Then you’ll make your presentation to the board, and we’ll vote.”

Dominic twitches again but just nods.

The rest of the board meeting goes by in a blur, boring stuff like minutes from the last meeting and how our accounting department has grown.

“I nearly blew it in there,” Dominic says after the meeting is finally over and we’re walking to the valet.

“You did great.” Well, not great, but he got it done.

He snorts. “I nearly pissed myself when Edwards asked me my opinion.”

“What is your opinion? Are things really so bad? ”

“They’re bad.” He still has bags under his eyes. “I don’t know what will happen.”

“We just have to find the leak.”

We head back to Damien’s place, and I walk in the door and hear a familiar sound. Olivia’s moans.

I put a hand on Dominic’s chest to stop him, but he’s already striding into the bedroom, and I wince to see Olivia on top of Damien, covers on the floor, riding him for all she’s worth.

Damien doesn’t miss a stroke, to his credit, just grunting and thrusting into her.

Dominic’s jaw twitches.

“Look at you, honey,” he murmurs, but there’s a warning in his voice.

I should probably get him out of here before he rips Damien’s head off.

I push him out of the room, lightly closing the door as Olivia hasn’t even noticed.

Dominic paces around the kitchen. “I’m going to kill him.”

I push him out onto the balcony, sighing heavily. “You’ve got to get this whole jealousy thing under control.”

“Easy for you to say. You’re not in love with her.”

Well, that’s a complicated subject, so I ignore it.

“This is what she wants. Don’t you want to give her what she wants?”

He groans and braces himself on the balcony railing, looking out over the parking lot.

“I want to give her the world. But why does that have to be another man? Men ?”

“Because she’s got a lot of love to give. You can see how happy she is, Dom.”

“I just don’t know if I can do it. I don’t know if I can just have a piece of her.” He looks devastated, like he’d like to throw himself over the railing.

I put a hand on his shoulder. “You have all of her. I see the way she looks at you.”

“What about the way she looks at you?”

I drop my hand, stiffening. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Dominic scoffs. “You can’t possibly not know she has feelings for you.”

My heart soars, but I try to ignore it.

There’s been this line I thought I wouldn’t cross, this feeling I thought I wouldn’t have.

It’s getting harder and harder to ignore it.

I clear my throat. “This isn’t about me. This is about you and Olivia, and you need to sit down and talk to her.”

“I will, when this leak is taken care of.”

“In the meantime, will you cool off out here? I’ll go check on the lovebirds.”

He barks out a bitter laugh and nods.

I huff out a breath and walk back to the bedroom.

Olivia is on her back, panting, while Dominic sits up, both of them now covered with the blanket.

“Everything okay?” Olivia asks, still breathless.

I smirk. “Dominic is just having a mental breakdown. Must be Tuesday.”

Olivia sits up straight, but I walk up to her and put a hand on her shoulder to stop her.

“He just needs some time to think.”

“He didn’t leave, did he?” She bites her lip.

I shake my head. “No, he’s out on the balcony. Don’t worry so much.”

She plops back down in bed. “I can’t help it. He’s struggling, and I’m just here getting railed. ”

I laugh, surprised at her vulgarity, and sit down on the edge of the bed, pushing her dark hair back from her face.

“It’s okay. He’ll be fine, it’s just a jealous streak. We’ve all had them.”

She tilts her head. “Even you?”

“You should have seen me in my twenties. Sophie was always a flirt, and it drove me crazy .”

Olivia gives me a big smile. “You light up when you talk about her, you know?”

It makes my cheeks hot, and I turn away.

Damien clears his throat.

I forgot he was even here. That’s what being around Olivia does to me.

“I guess I should check in at work.” He gets out of bed and grabs his phone from the nightstand.

“Wait, you don’t have to go,” Olivia whines, and Damien smiles at her, ruffling her hair.

“I’m not upset, sweetheart. Just worried about the merger.”

Her eyes widen as he exits the room.

“Sebastian, the merger. Shit, I almost forgot. What happened? The board meeting?”

I place a finger across her lips gently. “Relax with the rapid-fire questions. I’ll tell you everything.”

She nods, taking a deep breath through her nostrils.

“The meeting was just a precaution.” A warning. “They wanted to know when Dom would be finished with the financial review, that’s all.”

“And what did he say? We need time.” Panic laces her voice.

“We got some time.” I know it’s not a real answer, but she doesn’t need the stress of knowing we only have five business days to get this figured out.

She bites her lip but doesn’t respond, and I get under the covers, sliding into bed with her fully clothed except for my suit jacket and shoes, which I discarded at the door.

She puts her head on my chest immediately, and I wonder if she can feel my heart beating too hard against my breastplate.

“Are you okay? It’s unusual that you talk about Sophie.”

A tiny arrow pierces my heart. “Honestly, I should talk about her more. I don’t want... I would hate it if she was... forgotten.”

“You’ll never forget her, Bash. That much is clear.”

“I just miss her so much sometimes. I guess the baby is bringing everything up.”

Olivia sits up, sitting cross-legged and looking at me.

“Did she want kids?”

“Someday. We didn’t really have time to talk about it. She got sick and declined so quickly.”

“Did you want them?”

My heart aches more, but I push through, knowing that talking about it will help.

“Someday. With Sophie. Never with anyone else.”

“Do you think the baby will cramp your style?”

I snort. “Of course, it will, but I’m not afraid of that. I’m in this, Olivia. I’ll be there for you and the baby, no matter what. We’re friends, right?”

Something flashes across her face. “Sure. Friends.”

I can’t help it.

There’s something about the way she looks at me, her lip pouty from kissing, her face flushed after her romp with Damien. Something inside me wants to show her that I’m better, some streak of competition and a dose of jealousy.

I lean forward and kiss her, pulling her closer and then covering her with my body, rutting against her thigh.

She moans into my mouth, her nails on my shoulders making me gasp .

“Bash, please, I’m so ready, you wouldn’t understand.”

I chuckle and slide my hand between her legs, my eyes widening at how slick she is.

I groan, pumping two fingers in and out of her.

She clearly hasn’t showered after Damien, and while that should gross me out, I find it kind of... hot.

I grunt, unbuttoning my slacks and shoving them down to free myself.

Olivia’s mouth parts as she looks down at my erection, and she puts her hand around me.

I thrust into her hand, and she moans softly.

“I want you inside of me, Sebastian, please.”

“When you ask so nicely, how can I say no?” I’m teasing but also, I’m so hard I could explode in minutes, so I quickly remove her hand and guide myself into her.

Oh, fuck.

She feels so hot and wet, slippery wet, and the glide makes my balls draw up.

“Oh, oh, oh.” She lifts her hips, and I hold onto them while I ram into her, panting, chasing my orgasm instead of worrying about her pleasure.

Olivia must like what I’m doing, though, because she cries out my name, clenching around me within a few strokes.

I hiss as she spasms around me, but I manage to make her come twice before I finally shout and come.

I roll off her and plop onto the bed, panting up at the ceiling.

Olivia lies there for a moment, her leg over my hip, before she gets up.

“I should go and talk to Dom.”

I nod. “I think that’s a good idea.”

She leaves the room, and I close my eyes and see Sophie’s beautiful face staring back at me .

I wish I had more pictures, more video footage than just the wedding one.

I have some pictures on my phone, but not nearly enough.

We could have been like this. We could have had a baby, had a family.

But it wasn’t meant to be, and I have to let that go.

Can I move on with Olivia, given everything? Can I move on with all of them?
