Chapter Twenty-Three

DOMINIC

The next week goes by in a blur of work and worrying.

Olivia is keeping mostly silent, only answering every other one of my texts.

I’ve been busy handling Edward and putting off the deep dive into Carter Holdings’ assets, citing that I wanted to go through it with a fine-toothed comb and needed a little more time.

“We don’t have much time, Hayes, so I need you to get it together.”

“I understand. I just need another two weeks.”

“You have ten days.” He isn’t even looking at me, staring down at paperwork on his desk.

He waves his hand as if to shoo me away.

Leaving the office, I heave a sigh.

I may be a changed man, but sometimes I miss the thrill of working for myself, being my own boss. I miss traveling, and once Olivia and I settle down and get married, I’m going to plan frequent vacations for us.

The baby will throw a bit of a wrench in that, but it’s not like I don’t have the money. I was a millionaire in my own right before I ever joined Titan’s team, and now I’m a billionaire.

In fact, if Carter Holdings wasn’t so far gone, I’d offer up my own money to help fix things.

But the numbers aren’t good. We have to find this leak yesterday.

After lunch, I make my way to Carter Holdings, telling myself that I need to consult with Olivia in a professional manner.

I know I’m lying to myself.

I just miss her.

I’ve been trying not to lose it about us not being back together again. I can’t understand why we can’t just fix things.

She loves me. I love her. We both know it. It’s stupid to keep playing these games.

She’s mine, and I’m hers. End of story.

Just because she has a few fantasies of having multiple lovers doesn’t mean that she doesn’t want me. Besides, that was a one-time thing. Right?

It’s not like I haven’t done my fair share of threesomes with multiple women, especially during my breakup with Olivia. I’d tried to lose myself in sex, but it hadn’t worked. I couldn’t stop thinking about her.

She’s dominated my thoughts since the first moment I saw her.

I leave my car with the valet and walk up to the catwalk.

A woman stands there, looking out over the parking lot, and when she turns, I’m surprised to see that it’s Marie.

I met Marie years ago while Olivia and I were dating, so we’re pretty familiar with each other.

I give her an awkward wave.

She looks funny, kind of nervous.

“Needed some fresh air?” I ask, just making conversation.

“Yep. Fresh air is good, right? Breathe it in. ”

I frown at her strange behavior. “Is Olivia in her office?"

She hesitates, and alarm bells start ringing in my head.

Something’s going on, and it’s not good.

“Where is she?” I don’t mean to sound as demanding as it comes out.

Marie swallows visibly. “Dominic, I think you should come back another time.”

My frown deepens. “Why? What’s going on?”

“Nothing!” She says it way too quickly. “It’s just... she’s busy. The merger and all.”

“That’s what I need to talk to her about.” I start to walk by Marie, and she grabs my arm.

I look down at her, annoyance flaring through me.

“Just... wait a minute, okay?”

“Marie, what’s this about?” I pull away from her and cross my arms over my chest.

“She... she’s in Damien’s office.”

I hitch in a breath and rush past her even though she tries to stop me, panic rising in my throat.

It’s fine, I tell myself as I impatiently wait for the elevator. He’s her boss, that’s all.

Her boss who’s had his dick in her, right in front of me.

I burst out of the elevator doors when it finally gets to the right floor, making a beeline to Damien’s office. I’ve met with him there before, so luckily I don’t have to ask for directions.

His door is slightly ajar, and as I get closer, I can hear them talking, Olivia’s delighted giggle.

Jealousy is like an angry badger in my stomach, clawing to get out.

I stand near the door, eavesdropping.

It’s nothing. It has to be nothing.

“You can’t say things like that at work. I can’t believe you’re saying them at all ,” Olivia says in a teasing tone.

“Can’t help it,” Damien murmurs, his voice low and carrying into the hallway. “When you dress like that...”

Nope.

I push the door open, and Damien and Olivia spring apart, standing way too close to each other on the other side of his desk.

I clear my throat, fighting the angry words that threaten to spill out of my mouth.

“Olivia, I need to talk to you.” My voice sounds thunderous in the large office.

“Can it wait?” Damien snaps, his gaze meeting mine.

His eyes are stony, but I don’t care. I’m only looking at Olivia.

“No.”

Olivia bites her lip, a nervous habit of hers that I’ve always found adorable. Right now, it kind of pisses me off.

“I’ll be back,” she says to Damien.

No, you won’t.

My possessive nature is flaring up, and I can’t seem to stop it.

When she exits his office, I take her by the elbow, ushering her across the hall into her own.

I shut and lock the door behind me, and Olivia looks up at me with wide eyes when I turn to face her.

“Dom, what is all of this about?”

“What were you doing in there?”

She stiffens. “I was consulting with my boss.”

I scoff. “Yeah, fucking right. I heard you giggling.”

“What, I’m not allowed to find anyone else funny anymore?”

I bristle. “It’s not that. He doesn’t have your best interests at heart, Liv.”

“Funny. That’s what he said about you. ”

“He said what about me?” My skin prickles. “I have never had anything but you in my mind, Olivia, through all of this.”

“I don’t understand what you want from me, Dominic. You left me . Not the other way around.”

I groan, running a hand through my hair. “You’re driving me crazy.”

She just looks at me, her hands on her hips, chin tilted up.

I flick my eyes down her body, just now noticing that she’s wearing a short skirt, one that shows off her long legs.

“Did you wear that for him?” My voice goes eerily calm.

Olivia doesn’t back down, her pale green eyes glittering with anger. “What if I did?”

I take a few steps toward her, and she backs up, bracing herself behind her desk.

“You’re mine.” I cup her face, thumbing across one of her cheekbones, leaning down to look into her eyes. “You’ve always been mine, and you always will be, Liv. Nothing is going to change that. Not Damien. Not Sebastian. Not this baby.”

“Is that so?”

“Yes.” I lean down to kiss her.

She resists only for a moment, putting her hands on my chest, but when I slide my tongue into her mouth, she melts into me.

I moan into her mouth, heat rushing through me, and get even closer, pressing my thigh between her legs.

She makes a surprised noise in the back of her throat, rocking her hips forward to grind against me.

“Bet you’re already wet,” I murmur against her mouth. “I know what I do to you, Liv.”

“Dominic,” she starts, but then licks her lips, searching my face. “You can’t do this. You can’t come up here while I’m working and make a scene... ”

“That wasn’t making a scene. That was marking my territory.”

“I’m not some prize to be won.”

“The prize was already mine. I was here first . Remember that.”

I can feel how hot her core is through my slacks, and my dick starts to stand at attention.

I could take her right here, sweep everything off the desk and put her on her back, rip off that little skirt.

Instead, I take a step back, taking a deep breath to calm myself.

"Answer my texts from now on.”

She sets her mouth in a hard line.

I don’t wait for her to yell at me, storming out of the office and heading back outside.

Work is over for today.

I can’t think, anger and jealousy clouding my senses.

If I hadn’t shown up, would they have...

I can’t even think about it, my stomach knotted.

Fuck, I hate this. She was supposed to be mine. Only mine.

And I fucked it up. I have no one to blame but myself.

I need a drink, something to punch. Maybe both.

Once I’m home, I head downstairs into my at-home gym with a six-pack of beer, chugging one before I start working the bag.

Damien is a health nut and probably would judge me for the beer, but what do I care.

I punch the bag as hard as I can, nearly knocking it off its hook. It doesn’t make me feel any better, even though I’m picturing Damien’s stupid face.

At least Sebastian only wants to sleep with her. I know that Damien wants her for himself, and not just her body.

Well, tough luck.

Her heart is mine.
