Raffy still glares at me, but when I ignore him, he continues to trot after me with Sugar. It amazes me that he can be so hot and intense, like during the BDSM clubbing night, and also so confused and clueless like now.

At the car, I make sure I’m the one sitting behind the wheel again, despite Raffy complaining. “Do you even have your license?” I ask him dryly.

He blinks. “Right,” he stutters. “I completely forgot I don’t have any documents.”

“See? For now, it’s me driving! Also, I want us to reach our destination in time.”

“And I want us to reach our destination in one piece,” he grunts.

“Are you implying that my driving is bad?” I dare him while starting the engine and making our way out of the garage.

“I’m implying that—” I don’t get to hear what he implies because Sugar uses exactly this moment to poke his nose into Raffy’s face and smear slobber all over him. “I swear,” he huffs. “One day it’s me or the dog!”

I can barely contain my laughter again. When Raffy throws me a scandalized look, I try to swallow down my giggles and instead grunt and snort through my nose. “I swear, one day I will…” Raffy grumbles, his voice trailing off.

“One day you will do what?” I ask curiously.

Make me put my potty mouth to a better use than spouting sassy comments?

That’s what I want to say, but I don’t quite have the guts to offer him a blow job right now.

Raffy looks at me like he is trying to read me, like he isn’t quite so sure either what to say or think. “We’ll pass by a car dealer?” he says suddenly.

I’m glad for the little distraction and for him changing the subject. I nod. “I’ll upgrade my car to something bigger. It’s about time anyway. I mean, I have a huge dog now,” I say. And a huge werewolf, but I’m not so sure if the latter will remain in my life for longer than the next couple days.

I don’t want to jinx it by raising my hopes.

Chapter twenty-nine

Meeting Again

IhearElifonthe other side of the line rambling on and on about something. I only remotely understand it has something to do with finding Finn.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” I interrupt Elif while she tries to tell me that they made the tracking software work, but apparently… something… doesn’t work? “Make it simple, Elif.”

“It works, technically, but the signal is like a pinball—just jumping around.” She sighs. “We need to get an amplifier somewhere on a higher point. A hill. Like the one rising from the forest.”

That’s Emerald Moon pack lands. Technically not a problem, but it’s Matthew’s pack, and he is the last person I want to see anytime soon.

“Can you handle that?” Elif asks.

What am I supposed to say to her? No, because we are werewolves, and that asshole there was mated to Dave and treated him like shit, so we aren’t talking. “Sure,” I hear myself say, begrudgingly so. “Leave it to me.”

I promise that I’ll be picking up the device she wants me to set up in an hour before hanging up.

“Emerald Moon?” Luca asks curiously.

He stretches, giving me a full view of my mark he carries now. It makes me want to jump him again, but unfortunately, I can’t. We need to make sure to track down Lord Finn and his team now. “Emerald Moon is our neighbor pack and an ally.” I pause. “Matthew is from that pack,” I grumble.

“Oh.” Luca blinks. “Oh!”

“Well, nothing I can do about that,” I say firmly, smiling when Luca reaches out to take my hand. “Let’s go and see Luna Annalise. She will know what to do.”

She indeed does, promising me she will call Luna Janice, Alpha Jace’s mate and the luna of Emerald Moon, instantly and make sure we can get on their pack grounds. I watch her shuffling around while on the phone. Meanwhile, Luca and I watch her babies, the twin girls Aurora and Asteria.

A small hand grabs the hem of my shirt and tugs at it. “Aw, look who is here,” I coo, scooping up little Aurora in my arms and swinging her around. She laughs and gurgles happily. They are growing so fast, soon we’ll have two little tornados running around. They’ve already grown out of their comfortable and cozy baby phase and are scooting around already. Alpha Liam lovingly refers to them as his favorite baby seals.
