Page 76 of A Broody Mate for the Human
I can feel my cheeks heating up and, at the same time, getting very excited at what he hints at here. “What?” I tease. “To keep track of my misdemeanors?”
Oh yes, baby, make that list, and then punish me for it.
I can feel my body warming at the prospect of being at Raffy’s mercy and having his strong hands manhandling me. God, this club and that weird BDSM night really aren’t good for my sanity.
“Dance,” I blurt out.
“Huh?” Raffy eyes me curiously, completely oblivious to the turmoil of my thoughts.
“Let’s dance. You promised,” I mutter before I can embarrass myself further by dragging him to that playroom both Clarissa and Lady Portia hinted at.
Raffy isn’t my boyfriend or anything. He has just joined me because he is desperate. Better not get my hopes too high.
I can feel Raffy close behind me, following me to the dance floor. Before I can go too far, he grabs the little ring of my collar, holding me back. “This thing is truly handy,” he muses, completely analytical, like he is analyzing a car engine. “It would have been a waste on Sugar. You wear it better.”
He is just being casual, and he had a drink too much.
He is just playing his role, Dave.
He isn’t interested.
I turn around to face him, a smirk curling my lips. I grab his tie and tug him closer. “I hope you can dance, super-Dom,” I tease. “Or are you just talk?”
He is not interested. You’re not interested either. It’s just the atmosphere. Stop flirting with him.
“That’s going to be the first point on my list in my journal,” he teases, waving around with his whip playfully.
You don’t even like him!
He is not my type.
I notice how Raffy sways slightly to the music. Although he can’t dance and just whips from one foot to the other, he still looks so graceful and hot. He is completely out of my usual comfort zone. These manly and dominant types are normally not for me… Matthew was an exception because the mate bond pulled me to him, but Raffy…
Did I mention he isn’t my type?
He puts a hand on my waist, his lips tugging into the hint of a smile, while his dark, hungry eyes keep staring at me.
Who am I even trying to convince?
“Then let’s make sure there is more to add to your journal,” I whisper in what I hope is a seductive voice.
Again, something flashes in his eyes. I wonder if it’s his wolf getting stronger again… which makes me further wonder what triggers his sudden response. Maybe the prospect of recovering his memory and also not being alone in the woods anymore…
I shove the thoughts aside for a while and decide to enjoy my time with Raffy now. Who knows if we’ll ever have such a night together again?
It’s 6 a.m. when the club is closing, and Clarissa, in person, comes to tell us we have to leave. She winks at me while she accompanies us out, throwing suggestive comments at me which should make me feel more embarrassed than they do.
“And now?” Raffy frowns when we stand outside. He drank so much, yet he isn’t even tipsy. Lucky wolves. It’s too early for the sun to start rising, but I feel like I need to eat something or I will feel sick later.
“Breakfast?” I offer.
“Great idea,” Raffy mutters. “I feel like my stomach has a hole.”
“Your stomach does have a hole,” I grin. “The amount of food you can swallow is unbelievable.”
“What number on the list is that now?” he teases.
I laugh. “Your list is getting long.”
