Page 156 of A Broody Mate for the Human
So, I decide to stay rooted in my place too.
But what the fuck is going on?
I know this is shitty timing,I link Ella. But who are they?
Fenris and Sylvan,Ella answers.
Ah…I blink.Who?
Fenris is Alpha Liam’s lycan.She explains.And Sylvan is Dante’s.
Oh, now that makes sense! Further in the distance behind them, I can see two jeeps following them, and I swear I can spot Aryanna’s neon-yellow hair in one. Helps to look like a traffic light…albeit a hot one.
Once they have reached us, both Liam and Dante shift back to their human forms, accepting a pair of pants Ella throws at them from the trunk of our SUV. Liam’s eyes are pitch-black, and his jaw tightened. With long strides, he approaches Annie, his hands carefully roaming her body, eyes lingering on her disheveled clothes, her makeshift blouse she put on to cover for the one the jerkface ripped off, and the dried blood on parts of her face.
He growls as he cups her chin to make her look at him. “Did they hurt you?”
“Yes,” Annie says calmly.
She is the fucking queen for not being intimidated by him at all!
Dante and Ella exchange a gaze, and I can see his eyes clouding over in worry when he looks at her. She nods at him reassuringly and shows him a short smile.
“What happened?”
Annie gives him a brief summary of what happened. How Troi’s men tried to kidnap Esme, how I screamed for help and alerted everyone, up to how she tricked the men until Ella and the others came.
Liam’s hands clench into fists. “You shouldn’t have allowed your luna to get hurt,” he bellows at the guards.
“That was not possible for them,” Annie explains to him. “It’s not like they can go against a luna command.” When Liam stares at her, she sighs slightly. “Esme is a pack member and a victim. Troi’s men were out for blood. I will not allow a pack member under my watch to be abducted and then left to be raped and murdered.”
There seems to be turmoil in Liam’s eyes, but eventually his gaze softens. He turns towards Aryanna who by now has approached us in the jeep. “Take Cameron and Esme to the infirmary.”
“One of Alpha Jace’s pack members was there to help and got hurt too,” Annie explains and gestures towards the car in which Matthew is currently sitting.
“Make sure to call Alpha Jace and bring the pup to the infirmary as well,” Liam commands Aryanna before she swiftly goes to retrieve the injured.
The second jeep halts in front of us, and Jun jumps out of it. He looks worried as he approaches Annie. “Luna,” he exclaims. “Did you get hurt!? I knew I should have come with you.”
“You had a meeting to attend here.” Annie smiles at him. “And I’m fine.”
I frown at her words, my mind going back to the moment the guy kicked her in her stomach and moved his sleazy hands over her body. Liam’s gaze lingers on me, and I try to stop my thoughts from spiraling further. He can probably sense my uneasiness.
Liam’s eyes darken again as he approaches the car with the two prisoners. He rips it open. “Which one attacked the luna?”
The two guards all too willingly push Tom towards Liam, who grabs him by his collar and drags him out of the car. Tom wriggles and screams, begging for mercy, like he didn’t try to rape Annie just an hour ago and abduct Esme.
“Jun, make sure everyone gets home safely,” Annie commands. “Ella and Dante will stay here with me.”
“Leave too,” Liam tells her, his voice dark.
“No,” Annie says calmly. “I’m here to make sure you won’t kill them. We need him alive.” She approaches Liam slowly, baring her neck to him when she brushes over his arm. “We need them alive, Alpha,” she says softly. “They are weak; it’s going to be easy to make them talk.”
Liam lets go of Tom and instead wraps his arms around Annie, smashing her against his body. His nose nuzzles her hair before moving towards her neck.
“Fenris,” Annie says softly. “Leah and I were in control all the time. And I know I’ll be safe with you here.”
“Mate,” Liam growls and then moves away a bit. “Alright,” he says, his voice darker than usual. “You heard your luna.”
