Page 5 of A Broody Mate for the Human
I didn’t tell my friends I met my mate, they don’t need to know. I just linked them that I met someone I know and would go home on my own. A good run is exactly what I need now anyway. I rip my clothes off, stuffing them into the bag I always take with me, just in case, like today, tying it to my leg and shifting into my wolf form. I run the full way back home.
Dash is a beautiful, strong wolf with a shiny silver coat. He is upset at me though for having left our mate.
Stop the drama,I huff. It’s not like I rejected him.
We need to return to him now and court him,Dash huffs. He is a human. Humans are different. He needs to like us!
Who says I want him to like us!?
Dash growls at me.Don’t you dare to even think about—
About what?I huff. You know we can’t be with him. He is a human.
But…Dash retaliates a bit.He is our mate.
We are an heir to the gamma position,I remind him.We are supposed to be Anthony’s and Henry’s gamma once they take over. It’s not unheard of for identical twins to share a position when they are really close, so I’m sure they will become co-alphas. I don’t mind, though. I will be their gamma, with a stunning, strong she-wolf at my side!We can’t be gamma with a human boy fated to us.
Dash remains quiet.Says who?
Dad is expecting pups from us,I remind him.We are supposed to continue our family’s legacy! We can’t jeopardize it.
I shiver slightly at the thought of telling my father the news. He would beat the shit out of me, rightfully so. No way will I tell him. He won’t ever know. It won’t be necessary. I will reject Dave and then move on. I don’t even care who I take for my mate. Anyone would do, as long as she is a wolf and will give me pups!
Something inside me churns painfully at the thought, but I shove it aside. Mentioning Dad has worked on Dash, too, as he remains silent, although I can feel how unhappy he is.
Well, he will survive. We both will!
Not wanting to meet or see anyone, I head straight to the training grounds once I’m back home and put on my clothes again. The goddess has to hate me, I think bitterly as I start attacking the punching bag.
A human.
A guy.
It’s just gross.
And he was flirting with that Asian dude. I don’t want someone whoring around anyway.
I deserve better.
I hit the punching bag until my knuckles are bloody, trying to get Dave out of my head. I hate that I remember his name and, worse, that I remember his scent and the way his beautiful eyes looked up at me. He wasn’t even scared I was a wolf.
Fuck, I just can’t.
“Goodness, Matt,” I can hear someone giggle behind me. It’s Clara, a young female warrior. She has been hitting on me for years now. I find her annoying most of the time, but shit, she might be exactly what I need now.
I growl slightly, letting go of the punching bag, and approach her.
“Did something upset you?” she asks softly like she is even interested.
I grab her by her arm and pull her closer, enjoying that I can touch her like that without hurting her, not like that human.
She giggles, wrapping her arms around me and playfully pecking my nose. It’s all the invitation I need. I grab her by her waist and push her against the wall.
I’ll prove it now, just how much girls turn me on!
