It took a few hours before both Marley and Nora awoke. Marley perked up right away in her typical fashion. "Starving," said Sam. "Can't decide. What do you want?"

"Hmm." Marley tapped her lip. "Chinese. That okay?"

"Definitely. What about you two?" Sam called out. "Chinese?"

I rubbed Nora's bare stomach while she lay on her back, naked and without a care in the world, while twirling her hair around her finger. She smiled at me, a daydreamy far off smile that spoke nothing save for contentment.

"What do you say, Kitten? Chinese for dinner?"

She nodded and stretched a bit. "Yes. Ice cream for dessert?"

"You got it." I kissed her chin and looked up to Sam. "We're in."

"Good," she said, then passed her phone around for all of us to put in our orders. "Do you have to rush out, Mar?"

"Not today," she answered, stretching with a second yawn to follow. "I came over from work."

Samirah pocketed her phone when I passed it back to her and dropped her hands on Marley's hips. Their casual connection, despite Marley's nakedness, didn't carry any intimacy or depth that became more notable to me. After spending so much time with Sali and Maggie, equitable affection and emotional closeness became commonplace in the company of our peers. Even with Harper and Moreno, Ben and Katie.
