Story: Solanum
Chapter Fifteen
"What are you doing, Kitten?" I asked Nora when I found her sitting at the dining room table in my apartment.
She wore nothing save for an untethered silky black and pink robe. It hung open around her middle but covered her breasts only just. Her eyes fixed on the laptop in front of her, scanning the screen. She didn't answer me, so I called to her again.
"Nora, what are you doing?" I ran my fingers through her damp hair when I approached.
"Morning," she said, finally, but still fully engrossed in whatever she read.
I looked over her shoulder and noted two tabs open; one belonged to the news, the other her bank account. "Are you worried about Sali and Maggie?"
"All of these people keep asking Sali for help. Eventually, she's going to give in and take a case," she said, clicking out of the news tab.
"It's inevitable, unfortunately." I kissed her cheek, before heading into the kitchen. "Want coffee, babe?"
"Yes, please." She glanced over her shoulder at me. "And pancakes."
I laughed while pouring out two mugs of the hot coffee that just finished brewing. "Sorry. We're all out. How about a Poptart?" I added a dash of milk to both of our cups then toted them back to her.
"No," she whined, pouting at me when I sat down adjacent to her. "I want pancakes." I handed her the mug and she accepted it, bringing it to her lips almost immediately to blow on it.
"Harper and Sali spoil you with their chronic sustenance preparation."
She laughed, then sipped her coffee. "You make good coffee."
"Glad you approve. Want me to order pancakes from the delivery app?"
She nodded, though her gaze wandered back to the computer. "I'm going to get fat."
"Hardly, Nor. You're weightless…"
"I'm used to working out every day at work. I haven't in months now…"
"You work out enough. Think of all those calories you burn while I'm fucking you for hours at a time." I propped my chin on my hand and wagged my brows at her. "So sweaty."
She swatted my thigh, then returned to scrolling something on the screen. "Doesn't count."
"Sure does. It's excellent cardio. What's so interesting there?" I motioned to the computer.
"Looking at my bank account," she said, her gaze flickering in my direction. "I added you as someone allowed to access my account. Maya was already on it."
"I appreciate you trusting me with that, Nor. But how come?" I tucked her hair behind her ear, and she leaned into it.
"Just in case," she answered rather cryptically. "I received an email from Mercy Bidwell telling me how to petition for damages over what happened to me."
"She blindly sent you that information?" My brow furrowed, and I scooted my chair closer to her. She turned into me, her knee falling between mine.
"Not too blindly. She ran into Anita and she gave her my email."
"Are you going to do it?"
"I think so…" She drew in a deep breath. "It's not hard. Wilkinson already sent me the paperwork to do it, but I ignored it. I've ignored all of it. Eventually I have to make a decision…"
"I know, honey." I rubbed her thigh and she toyed with my fingers when she took my hand. "I'll support whatever decision you make."
"Anita had an idea…" A tentative gaze met mine when she said it.
"What was it?" I smiled and brought her hand to my lips for a kiss.
