Story: Scream
“That’s your selling point? Shebakes?” I bark out a laugh and my men laugh, too.
“I’m saying… she won’t question your comings and goings. She’s… she’s different. She won’t bother you or ask for more. You can keep your life the way it is. It’ll be just for show.”
I look at the man more than fifteen years my senior, purse my lips then lower my gun. “What’s the catch?”
He huffs out a breath. “It’s for life. In the Syndicate, marriages are only seen as a reliable match after a year and all contracts are fulfilled. Financially especially. Otherwise, you could wind up dead. It’s a trust thing. You know they won’t trust anyone outside of their circles. I’ll talk to Sabrina. She knows negotiations for her hand are still going on. I haven’t found the right suitor. I can… you and I can come to a conclusion. An…agreement.” he gasps. “Three mill plus ten percent interest.”
I really don’t know why he’s fighting for his life so badly. Honestly, if I were in his position, just kill me. But then again, death hates people like us and loves to take the good ones too early. Which is why I know, he’s offering me the chance of a lifetime.
I click the safety back on.
“Have your people write up something, send it to my lawyers and I’ll contact you. Before the end of the week, David.”
“It’s Wednesday!” he gurgles.
“Well then,” I say, handing my gun back to Niko and motioning for my guys to unchain the piss soaked, middle-aged fuck and get him out of my dungeon. “Better get started,” I finish, without a glance back, walking to the elevator.
Once the whirring begins and we’re ascending, Niko just has to open his mouth. “You’re really thinking about this?”
“A way to infiltrate the Syndicateandget back my three mil? Absolutely.”
We step off into my office. “Send someone to do security there tonight. I want the conference rooms to be bugged, her office and his. Cameras, too. In the morning, do the same to her home when she leaves. If I’m going to have a little wife, I should get to know her beforehand. See what she’s like behind closed doors.”
“Yes boss.” He replies, leaving my office without another word, the noise from the club pours in for a brief moment before the heavy door shuts behind him.
The Next Day…
“You have got to be themostdreadful father I have ever had!”
“I’m your only father!”
I chuckle at that, taking a sip from my espresso in the kitchen of my penthouse watching it all unfold from my phone screen.
“Derek wouldNEVER! And to think! I came in here, so worried about you, your face! My god, yourface! Andhedid this to you? And you want me tomarryhim?!” She screams from across the conference table. “For what?Whywould you do this to me?” Hands fisted at her sides; she stomps her pink heel in a tantrum like the little Syndicate princess she is.
I do have to say, the blonde is a feisty little thing. She has to be maybe five-foot-six, it’s hard to tell with her magenta heels that match her skirt and blazer. Even the lace gloves on her hands also match her shoes.
She’s so…pink.
My upper lip curls in disgust.
“This is the agreement he and I came to, he asked for your hand and after negotiations-“
“Why wasn’tIa part of thesenegotiations?” She whines. “Don’t I have a say in this? My one and only wedding and it’s to a fucking drug lord or whatever the fuck he does!”
“Mind your manners and your mouth when you speak to me, I am still your father!”
“Believe me when I say,Dad, after this, you and I are nothing more thanassociatesworking under the same roof. You are dead to me.”
Whoa. She’s got somewhat of a backbone; I’ll give her that.
“Look at me.”
“Iamlooking at you! I am so furious I could rage-vomit but then it might splash on my Manolo’s, and I have court at two!”she sounds exasperated. Cute.
“Look at me, Sabrina.Reallylook at me. I wouldn’t ask this of you if I had another choice, if maybe someone from the Syndicate came forth and found you more… attractive…” he trails off.
“And what exactly made me sounattractive that nobody I’ve known my whole life doesn't want to make negotiations with you for my hand?”
“I’m saying… she won’t question your comings and goings. She’s… she’s different. She won’t bother you or ask for more. You can keep your life the way it is. It’ll be just for show.”
