“She has it password protected?” He frowns.
“Yeah. Look.” I turn the laptop to show him the login screen.
“That’s weird. She doesn’t have any reason to lock it. She only uses it to watch cooking shows and download recipes. Give me that.” He takes it from me.
“I’ll get another one.”
“In my office,” Matrix says. He’s still frowning, clicking away at Daisy’s computer. “Oh, wait. Oh man, she used ‘password’ as her password.”
“Now you’ve got an excuse to spank her ass. She should know better.”
“Why would I want to do that?” Matrix asks innocently, too innocently.
“Get the fuck out of here. I’ve seen the way you drool over that girl. Have you hit that yet?”
“No. I’m not interested.”
“The fuck you aren’t. You get puppy dog eyes whenever she walks into the room.”
“You’re an asshole.”
“He’s right, though,” Talon says. “She’s hot. She’s single. She’s not screwing anyone else, including any of the prospects.”
“Which is weird. She’s not like most club girls. They’re usually down to fuck. Most of them are angling to become someone’s old lady,” I say.
“She’s different. She’s not like them,” Matrix says.
“I guess not.” I eye him. Yep, he’s whipped. He’s just refusing to admit it.
“Screw you guys. I’ll be in my office.” Matrix grabs both laptops and disappears down the hall.
“Touchy,” Talon says.
“Right?” I smirk. “He needs to get laid.”
“Don’t we all?”
“Not all of us.” I grin.
“Stop rubbing it in,” Talon grumbles, but he’s smiling.
“I’m going to check on Scar.”
“See ya.”
I find Scar on the back patio in one of the chairs overlooking the river. His jaw’s set in a hard line. He’s turning his phone end over end in his hands.
“That was Julia.”
“Did she see the news?” I sit in the chair next to his.
“She heard it on the radio. Someone at the farmer’s market was listening to it.”
“At least it went live there too. How did people react?”
“She said no one seemed to be paying any attention to it.”
“Matrix will make sure it goes viral. People will find out soon enough.”
