“I’m not a broken clock, Skye, I’m a genius. And I also happen to be the only person who knows the passcode to this thing.”
“Okay, okay, you’re a genius who’s got foresight.”
I log in to the iPad and hand it over.
“Occasionally,” she adds under her breath, and I shoot her alook.
We climb onto the bottom bunk and she logs in to one of her accounts. Suddenly, I realize I should be giving her some space, but I don’t really have anything else to do so I settle forstanding in front of the wardrobe and staring at our clothes awkwardly.
Wow, there sure are… clothes in here.
“She’s around!” Skye says excitedly, drawing her legs up to her chest to chat. Her whole vibe has changed, like she’s lit up from within. She looks like the weight of the world has vanished from her back. Now she finally has someone she can talk to.
The smile that came over me when I first looked at her fades, and this realization sort of tugs in a sad way at my stomach. I’m not sure why, though, because it’s hard-core ridiculous, right? To be upset she doesn’t want to talk to me more than her oldest friend? I mean, for god’s sake, we barely know each other. Hell, a week ago we couldn’t stand each other.
I guess it’s just that I’m starting to like her a whole lot, and it hadn’t occurred to me that feeling might not be mutual. Which is something I need to get over fast, because how pathetic is that, moping around because you like someone more than they like you?Get a grip, Maya.
“Do you mind if I message my dad, too?” she asks.
“Oh my god, no, of course. I wish I’d thought to let you use it earlier.”
“You know,” she says in an absentminded way, “you could use this to win over Kim and Lauren. They’ll be much more susceptible to influence if they’re your biggest fans.”
“True. But I’m not sure I’m ready to risk losing my iPad.”
“Well, what do you want more? To chat with your friends, or to take Jordy down?”
I don’t reply. A few more minutes pass, and Skye lets out a gasp of horror.
“What happened?” I ask, straightening. “Is everything okay?”
“I googled us. I’m sorry, I had to see.”
“Oh.” I climb onto the bed next to her to look at the screen. “Yeah. I’ve been trying not to look, actually. It’s just been annoying me.”
She has the screen open to a forum. The topic is whether or not Skye seems stuck up in episode two, which aired tonight. Most of the commenters are furiously standing up for Skye against the original poster, but, still. The way this random person could be so wrong, yet so loud about it? Trash.
“Don’t read that,” I scold, pressing back to take us to the main page.
Out of curiosity, I scan the topics on the page.
Team Skye!!!
Team Kim
Anyone else noticed…
Mayas such a bitch wtf
Jordy’s too good for all of them
Are they all drunk?
TOO MUCH GIRL HATE ON HERE!!!!!!!
Obsessed with Jordy’s accent
My stomach sinks when I see my name. I mean, I knew it wouldn’t be good, otherwise we wouldn’t be trying so hard to make me likable now. But there’s a reason I’ve been avoiding googling any mention of the show on pain of death.I’ve already had a lifetime’s worth of random people thinking I suck before even meeting me, and I don’t need any more of that shit.
