He replies a minute later. How do I do that? Do I need to download Instagram?

I should’ve predicted that. I send him a link to the video instead.

A few minutes later he responds.Uh oh! He’s doing all those things you said he did.… Is that your friend who’s put that online? She should be careful with the internet.… People might see it.… Nothing is private these days Skye.…

I think she wanted people to see it dad

Yes well.… Is maya there? Tell her I say hi and welcome to London!

Just about. Will do!

A girl sitting in the seat next to me has pulled out her own phone and is watching a clip of Jordy, walking briskly down a street and trying not to look at the camera. She smiles to herself, then navigates to Perrie’s page to watch the video. When she’s done, she becomes one of the thousands upon thousands of people who followed Perrie today.

Finally, the first few people come through the doors. I wait, eagerly scanning them, until she finally walks through. I shove my phone in my pocket, beaming, and she breaks into a jog until she reaches me and throws her arms around me.

“Hi, hi, hi, hi,” she squeals as I swing her around.

“How was the flight?”

“Good, flew by. Ha! Flew by. Hi!” She pulls back and looks me up and down, like it’s been years and not weeks. “Oh my god, it’s so good to see you. I’ve missed you too much.”

“You, too,” I say, before pulling her in for another hug. A prickling on my neck tells me there’s more photographing happening, but I barely care.

“Okay, so I have a lot of luggage,” she says, gesturing at her two huge suitcases. “But it’s a long trip, so sue me. I dare youto pack for Italyandthe snow in one suitcase. And I’ve just remembered you already did that months ago, so I’m going to need you to not answer that, and—what?”

She breaks off, studying my face.

I smile sheepishly. “Something happened.”

“What?”

“Well… how do I summarize this best? Isaac sent the video he made for you to take Jordy down to Perrie, she’s uploaded it, it’s gone viral, everyone is about to find out who Jordy actually is, and it’s probably going to be the biggest news story in the country tomorrow.”

“Wait, what?” Maya laughs. Then, she seems to process it, because she eases into a slow grin. “Huh.”

“Yeah. What do you think?”

“I think,” she says, “we can talk more about that in a minute. I just have to do something first. I’ve been waiting for weeks for this.”

“What?” I ask. What could possibly be more important than this?

In response, she cups my face in her hands and kisses me until I forget about the video, too. And Jordy. And the show.

Until nothing exists but Maya.
