“Check this out. Two months ago, an informant in the Denver area told one of our agents that the cartel was moving into a new operation. You’ll never guess what it is.”

“Human trafficking.”

“Exactly. Running drugs got too hot, so they decided to switch up their cargo. It’s people, now.”

“Your sister went missing almost a year ago, so she couldn’t have come through this cartel.”

“Unless they’ve been trafficking people this whole time, and we didn’t know it. The agency could have been too busy following the drugs to realize they were also smuggling people.”

“Good point.”

“Cartels are crafty. They’re very good at making a lot of noise in one area while distracting us from their other businesses. Maybe trafficking wasn’t their main source of income, but after the drug bust, they had to ramp things up to cover their losses.”

“It makes sense.”

A knock sounds on the door. Scar pokes his head in a second later. “Got something for you.”

“Come in.”

“I heard back from the president of our Denver chapter. You remember Acid?”

“That crazy motherfucker’s the president now?”

“They had to make a change in leadership.”

“No shit.”

“He’s got eyes and ears all over the city. He heard about the girls coming in. Got the intel a few days ago before we ever knew about it. He and his guys are planning to intercept the traffickers and rescue the girls tonight. If they capture any of the traffickers, they’ll interrogate them to find out what they know about the operation. He’ll call me tomorrow to pass on any information he gets from them.”

“I want to go down there.” I’m on my feet, pacing around the room like a caged animal. “I need to ask them about my sister. They may have seen her.”

“That’s a long shot,” Matrix says. “We don’t know that she was trafficked through Denver. Blackstone could have sent her anywhere in the world.”

“But we know he’s connected to the men trafficking those three girls through Denver. It’s the only lead we have. I’m going to follow it whether you like it or not.” I head toward the door, but Matrix catches up. He grabs my upper arm to stop me. “Let go. Now!”

“I know enough about you to realize I can’t talk you out of this. If you’re going, then I’m going too.”

“No,” Scar says.

“Why not?” I jerk my arm free and turn to face Scar. “I’m not going to sit around and wait while someone else interrogates the men who may have helped traffic my sister. If you want to stop me, then you’re going to have to kill me.”

“Matrix?” Scar arches a brow.

“Don’t look at me, pres.” He grins. “She’s a firecracker just waiting to pop off. The only way I can stop her involves tying her to my bed, which I won’t do.”

“Why not?” Scar asks, smirking.

“Because when I do eventually use those ribbons of hers to tie her up, I want her begging me to do it.” Matrix’s silver eyes glitter with carnal desire.

Scar rolls his eyes. “Fine. We’re not going to hold her prisoner.”

“Thank you.” I flash a sarcastic smile his way.

“I guess you’re both going to Denver then.”

“Yep.” I nod.

“I’ll set it up with Acid, but while you’re there, you’re a guest of that club. Whatever Acid says, goes. Got it?”
