“Let’s go out to celebrate,” Enzo says. It’s only been a few hours since the doctor left us with a huge surprise.
Two babies.
How the hell will we handle two babies? Well, I suppose since there are three of us, we can manage. If Rafael doesn’t go running for the hills by then.
The news didn’t hit him the same way it hit me and Enzo. We’re thrilled. Rafael seems confused. Not angry, but like he’s still figuring it out.
I’m not sure going out to celebrate is what he wants to do tonight. I’m not sure he thinks this is something worth celebrating over. So when he smiles and looks over at Enzo who stepped outside onto the patio where Rafael and I have been sitting in silence, and says, “That’s sounds like a great idea,” my smile is so big it hurts my face.
“Yeah?” Enzo asks with a slight tilt of his head.
“Yeah,” Rafael says, getting to his feet. He moves to Enzo, stopping in front of him. “But only if I get to pick the place. Because I am not going to some hoity-toity restaurant that serves fish eggs to celebrate my possible child.”
My eyes widen as I stare at them, enthralled by their exchange. Enzo huffs out a laugh.
“Fine. But we aren’t going to a dive pub where no less than three fights will break out. My wife is pregnant.”
“Fine,” Rafael says. Then he does something nuts. He leans in and kisses Enzo right on the lips. Enzo winces, but not out of anger—it’s out of surprise. Rafael pulls back and walks away like that was the most normal thing ever.
“What was that all about?” I question when Enzo sits down. He looks as confused as I feel. Enzo told me they don’t do that sort of thing, and I’ve never seen it before.
“I think he may actually be happy about this baby thing.”
“Maybe he should wait for the results before he makes a decision.”
“Don’t be cynical,” Enzo says.
“I’m just trying to be realistic.”
“Maybe he decided he’s happy with a child being here, whether it’s his or mine. Regardless, we will both be here for it.”
I shrug. “I suppose that’s a good point.”
Enzo gets up, leaning down to kiss me. “You should get ready.”
“What am I supposed to wear?”
“Hell if I know,” Enzo says.
I roll my eyes as we walk inside and head to our bedroom, where we both spend the next hour getting ready. Okay, I spend an hour getting ready. Enzo is finished in about twenty minutes.
Enzo, of course, looks hot at hell. In a white button up with navy blue slacks that form to his body in a sinful way. He doesn’t have a tie, and his top few buttons are undone, giving him a classy yet casual look.
“Handsome, as usual,” I comment, as he wraps a hand around my waist and pulls me to his side.
His response is to let out a low growl and bring his lips to my neck. “We could stay here instead,” he says. “You look good enough to eat.”
I laugh, pressing a hand to his chest. “You can have dessert when we get back.”
His eyes burn with lust, and I go to the closet to pull out a pair of black flats that match my scoop line grey dress.
“I won’t forget you said that,” he says, moving after me.
I smile as I put my shoes on, grab my clutch, and we head downstairs.
Rafael is waiting at the bottom of the stairs, dressed the same way Enzo is. He smirks when he sees us walking down and offers me his elbow when I reach him. He kisses my cheek.
“Did you guys plan this?” I ask, gesturing to their outfits.
