Story: His Promise
He looks to Lorenzo and hands him the phone. Lorenzo looks at the screen, and with a smirk, tosses it back to me.
“Looks like you’ve found yourself an enemy.” When I don’t respond, he tips his head toward my phone. “That wasn’t me.”
“What?” I ask, my stomach bottoming out.
“You mentioned someone has been following Abi? That wasn’t me either.”
“You admitted to having me followed.”
“You, yes. A few weeks ago, and even then, it was a handful of times. As soon as I found out about her little kidnapping charge, I haven’t much cared about the situation. You’re free to be an idiot if you choose, and if what I’ve learned of the husband is true, youarebeing an idiot.”
I study Lorenzo, trying to tell if this is him messing with me more or if it’s the truth. I hope it’s him messing with me. I fuckingprayit’s him messing with me.
But it isn’t.
With one last glance at Anthony, I turn on my heel and start toward the door.
“Colter!” Anthony calls to my back.
I don’t pause, and I don’t look back. I push through the metal door, and when I’m back in the elevator, I pull out my phone, sending a quick text to Abi.
My house. As soon as you get this. Bring Zeke.
