Story: Hello Doctor
Everyone got up, going to hug and congratulate them. I clapped Fletcher’s hand and gave him a hug. “Congratulations. I’ll try to forget this means you slept with my sister.”
He nearly choked on his beer. Just made me laugh more.
I gave Liv a big hug and then put my hands on her shoulders. “Looks like you didn’t use that condom.” She hit my shoulder, but I only smiled. “I’m happy for you, sis. You got everything you always wanted.”
She grinned, touching her stomach. “I’m happy... Are you?”
I looked her over. “What do you mean?”
She twisted her lips to the side, hesitating. “I just mean... you don’t smile as much as you used to. Everything okay? No new diagnoses you’re hiding from us?”
I took a drink of my beer, hating how she always saw right through me. “Just realizing all my siblings are falling in love and leaving little ol’ me behind.”
She smiled slightly but then looked down.
“What?” I asked.
“Nothing,” she said too quickly.
“Liv, come on.”
“I just... heard something at the salon this morning while getting a haircut,” she said, toying with the freshly trimmed ends of her hair.
“You know the technical term ishairscut, right?” I teased.
She rolled her eyes at me. “I guess you don’t really want to know.”
I arched a brow. “Out with it.”
She patted my arm. “Mags is moving back to Cottonwood Falls.”
