Story: Desire
I’d laugh, but I’m too busy being miserable. “I just need to be able to control my murderous uterus enough that I can make it to class later,” I grunt, ignoring his question.
“Ayden, if you can use things for your own gain or to stir up trouble, you will,” his sister reminds him gently.
Blowing out a breath, Ayden sits on the edge of the bed, pushing some of my hair behind my ear. “New rule, Kitten?” he suggests, and I can hear rueful amusement in his voice.
“I’m tired of rules,” I respond petulantly, carefully opening my eyes a crack. God, my head hurts so much. As soon as they leave, I’ll pop a pad into my panties and go back to bed. Fuck the trip to the bathroom. I don’t think my period has started yet, it’s just flirting with my uterus.
“You’re starting to worry me, Silla. I’ll tell you the rules anyway. I promise not to use anything you say under extreme pain against you. No censoring, it’ll just hurt your brain,” he coos.
His talking about my brain reminds me that I haven’t seen Isaac today, and I sigh. “Okay,” I whisper. “I’m going to try to sleep this off.”
The twins glance at each other and seem to have a conversation I can’t hear.
“I appreciate that you’re talking about me, your worry is acknowledged, let me die in peace,” I grumble.
“So grumpy,” Ayden chuckles, kissing my forehead. The pain retracts for a moment in my surprise before flooding back. “I’m shit at making tea, so don’t drink it, Kitten. Try to sleep, and we’ll be back soon.”
Humming under my breath, I shut my eyes as they leave and light floods my room from the hallway. Forcing myself to rise, I change out of my uniform, put on a pad, and slip into pajamas so I can try to rest. I’ve lived with intense migraines for years, but this one is going to be rough.
Taking a small sip of water, I climb under the sheets, attempting to shut out the world. Unfortunately, I only manage to nap sporadically before someone else walks into my room without knocking.
“Who’s there?” I croak out, noticing that more time must have passed than I thought because my hot water bottle isn’t as warm as it was.
“It’s Sidney, Kitten. I missed you this morning, and I don’t like how I feel about it,” he says, climbing into bed with me. Stiffening, my eyes widen because of both his words and his actions. “I got sidetracked by a phone meeting with the Queen’s staff, and then threw the damn thing across the room when I realized that I missed our time together.”
“I figured you were all too busy after yesterday,” I rasp, struggling to breath as pain pierces my head. Only it feels as if my entire face hurts.
“Oh no. Stupid people needed to talk my ear off to feel important, Kitten,” Sidney breathes by my ear. “Can I help you?”
“Hurts. Everything is just awful,” I sniffle. “I feel like I’m overreacting, but this feels worse than it ever has been.”
“I wonder if the birth control is causing this,” he mutters as his hands slide through my hair. Long, strong fingers working along my scalp, rubbing up and down the back of my neck.
“Gods…” I whisper.
“Yes, I’ll allow you to call me that,” Sidney murmurs, his lips brushing my neck. “The twins told me you felt poorly, and I have the power to make you feel better. Does that make me a God?”
My lips twitch as I feel my body start to relax slightly.
“I brought a few tonics that I made to help, but I need to know everything that hurts, Kitten,” Sidney tells me.
Biting my lip, I wonder why I feel so odd telling him that I’m having period cramps. His hand runs down my body, rubbing and massaging, and it feels amazing.
“I don’t care if you have your period, by the way. Andrya got hers when she was twelve, and Ayden and I have catered to her ever since,” he chuckles. “‘Drya told me before she sent me away. The twins are finishing up class, but I can tell they’re worried.”
“I started cramping this morning and my head is killing me,” I explain, my voice cracking. “I thought it was just because none of us slept last night.”
“What do you mean none of you slept?” he asks curiously.
“The place was a wreck,” I sigh. “So we all cleaned it.”
“Did anyone tell you to do this?” Sidney asks, and I struggle to remember.
No one really did, but we did it anyway.
“No. Our rooms were a mess, my clothes and bedsheets were covered in soap. The Queen’s Mission complained that we were too comfortable, so we should do laundry. Since we were all up, we kept going.” I sigh.
“Kitten, I wondered why everything sparkled and everyone looked so tired. The Warden also was confused,” he says. “I don’t think he realizes that you all needed to find some sort of control over your lives after last night.”
