Story: All's Fair in Love & Vegas
Ty’snostrils flare as he stares at me, eyes flitting to the twins.Idon’t have to look to knowAdrianis smug about this.Zakprobably is, too.Eitherway,Ileave the drama behind me, wanting nothing more than to separateTyfrom theRamostwins.
Footstepsfall behind me.
Theair is tense in theJeepfor the next two hours fromAustintoLosoya.Safeto say whatever outingTyhad planned for us after the show flew right out the window whenZakpractically told him we’re back together.
Itdoesn’t matter.Icould use some sulking time in the shower.
We’reon the road leading to the house, but theJeepsuddenly pulls over to the side of the road.
Typarks and turns the engine off. “You’regonna tell me what the fuck is going on,Steph.”
Ikeep my focus trained on the darkened road ahead, watching shadows play across the pavement from the light pollution scarring the sky.
Aloudsmackon the console beneath my elbow makes me jump. “Tellme!”
“I’mnot gonna put you in danger,Ty,”Isay loudly. “Justgo home toAtlantaand forget about me.”
“Areyou back withZak?” he demands.
“No.”
Tyscoffs. “Heseems to think so.”
Asmall, bemused laugh passes my lips. “What, just like you?”
Hisjaw clenches tight as he turns to peer out the driver’s side window.Hetakes two deep, measured breaths, like he’s counting to ten to calm himself, before facing me. “They’vegot somethin’ to do with the weird shit goin’ on here.AmIwrong?”
Myhead shakes. “We’reall in the same pile of shit.Theonly way out is if we stick together.”
Heconsiders that quietly, peering out the windshield. “What’sthe pile of shit,Steph?”
Myfingers drum against the door. “IfItell you, promise you won’t make the same mistake we did.”
“Yeah, fine.”
Itake a deep breath, and another for good measure, before blurting out, “Wemade deals with the devil.”
God,IwishIdidn’t say that so fucking loud.
Iscan the inky air for shadows.Thehair on the back of my neck stands on end.
“Ididn’t think people were serious when they say they made a deal with the devil.”
“Yeah, well… guess it’s easy for us since the devil is all aroundSanAntonio.”
Thatconfession simmers as we stare out the windshield.
“Whatdid you make a deal for?”Tyasks. “Toget back intoTimeless?”
“No,”Ilie quietly.
“Thenwhat the fuck was it,Steph?”
Mylips set into a thin line, refusing to respond.
Hisnostrils flare with an audible huff. “Eitheryou tell me, orI’mgonna dig and find out some other way.”
Icross my arms. “Idon’t want to talk about it.”
