I gave her nape another gentle squeeze. “I don’t think he means today. We have to go on a tour first.”

Ander didn’t comment, something I appreciated. Other Alphas might have taken offense to Riley’s tone. But he merely observed.

“Okay,” she agreed, her blue eyes finding mine. “Tour first.”

I leaned over and brushed a kiss against her cheek. “We’ll find a proper nest.”

She narrowed her gaze, making me grin.

“I’m your kept Alpha now,” I added, smiling. “I want a nest to live in while you work.”

Her nose crinkled.

Then she realized I was teasing her.

At least a little bit.

I did want a nest—just one with her. Maybe one day we would have pups. Maybe we wouldn’t.

I would take the requisite pills to keep from procreating during her cycles. Unless she told me otherwise.

My life was with Riley.

Her happiness mattered most.

As evidenced by her smile now. It made my wolf come alive in response, my soul satisfied by my mate’s pleasure.

“We’ll build a nest,” she told me, her eyes sparkling. “Together.”

“Together,” I agreed.

Her lips curled, and she looked at Ander again. “I think it’s time for our tour of your sector, Alpha. My mate and I need to pick a new home.”

I pulled her toward me and kissed her temple.

You make crash-landing a plane near an Infected nest worth all the pain and chaos in the world, I thought at her.And I can’t wait to see what fate has in store for us next.
