“Now.” The dominance underlining that single word had my hands moving before my mind could process the action.
“Don’t you go all growly Alpha on me,” I snapped, even while I unbuckled myself and stood. “I’mnotyour subordinate.”
He grunted and caught my hip when I started to sway. I hadn’t been prepared for the weakness in my limbs, nor had I really been processing my motions while moving.
Because my inner wolf was doing what the Alpha had demanded without thought.
Traitor, I thought at my Omega side.
She responded by leaning toward Jonas, my nostrils flaring at his woodsy scent.
Stop that,I told her.He is not ours.
Fortunately, Jonas didn’t seem to notice. He was too busy urging me to move out of the aisle and toward the front of the plane. My legs resembled jelly beneath me, the unexpected landing wreaking havoc on my limbs.
Although, that could also be from the upcoming heat.
Or perhaps a combination of all of the above.
Today is not turning into a good day, I muttered to myself. It was a thought that evolved into an even deeper truth as Jonas pointed toward the windows at the front of the plane.
“Now will you shift, princess?” he asked, his tone silky and underlined with a hint of mockery.
My lips parted, words escaping me.
Becausefuck.
There was an army of Infected ambling toward us. At least a hundred of them. Maybe more. “We… we need…”
“To run,” Jonas finished for me. “And we’re fastest in wolf form.”
I was going to suggest we fly or grab a car or something even faster than being on all fours.
But we’d landed here for a reason.
And we obviously couldn’t camp out in this jet.
Unless…“Does Kieran know where we are?”
Jonas released me. “Even if he did, he’s not coming for us. We’re on our own until we reach the base.”
“Why can’t he double back and pick us up?” I asked, very aware of my indignant undertone. I really didn’t mean to come off as such a brat with Jonas. It was just a natural response to his nearness. His hotness. His… hisAlpha-ypresence.
“Because it’s too dangerous.” Jonas caught my chin and forced my gaze to his. “Stop being difficult, Doctor. It’s my job to protect you. Which does, in fact, make you my subordinate for the foreseeable future. Now get over yourself andshift. Or I’ll make you shift. You feel me?”
I gaped at him, torn between fury and shock. In the end, shock won because that was the longest he’d ever spoken to me.
Jonas was a man of few words.
Yet he’d just delivered a speech.
One that ended in a threat regarding his intention to force my shift, which should have infuriated me more than it did, but he wasn’t wrong in his statements.
I was being unfair to him and difficult for no reason.
Well, not a reason he understood, anyway. A reason I couldn’t exactly explain without revealing my Omega identity.
Which would lead to an entirely different conversation.
