One of them is chasing me.
And I couldn’t scent Jonas at all.
Is he hurt? Did they somehow subdue him?
It seemed an impossible feat to take Jonas down, especially that quickly.
Did one of the Alphas choose to chase me instead of battling my mate?
That suggested he might not be as insane as he smelled. Most feral wolves relied on their animal instincts, which typically meant removing competitors before rutting a potential mate.
But this Alpha seemed to be strategically pursuing me.
Does Jonas know?
If he didn’t, he would soon. But would he be fast enough to help me?
My jaw clenched.Think, Riley.
I wasn’t a normal Omega. But my wolf would submit if forced to.
Although, mating Jonas might actually make me less susceptible to certain Alpha tricks—such as their growls.
But if caught, I could pretend to supplicate.
And use his victory to my advantage.
Alphas didn’t anticipate much of a fight from Omegas—something that might just give me an edge in this battle. Assuming the beast wasn’t as feral as he seemed, anyway.
Which his trajectory and strategy had suggested might be the case.
I can’t keep up this pace,I thought, my legs beginning to ache. A five-mile-per-hour pace was standard, but I could sprint upward of thirty to thirty-five miles an hour.
However, I couldn’t hold that speed for much longer. And the Alpha on my tail was gaining on me, his size and strength no match for my own.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
Think, Riley, I told myself again. There has to be something I can do to distract him long enough for Jonas to catch—
A man appeared in my path several meters ahead, his presence sudden and entirely unexpected.A third Alpha.
And this one had a knife.
But no scent.
Dark hair. Pale skin. A wicked grin.
How did he…?
But there wasn’t time to think, not with the other Alpha growling behind me.
Supplicate, I thought.Supplicate and use my perceived weakness as an advantage.
I lowered my head, pretending to cower, and slowed my pace.
Jonas is coming. Jonas is coming. Jonas is coming.
The chant rolled through my mind, my wolf sure of his incoming presence.
