“I didn’t think you’d mind,” Kincaid said. “What’s one more vampire?”
Saintcrow shook his head. “You beat everything, you know that?”
“So, do we have your blessing?”
“Why the hell not?” Saintcrow glanced at Rosa. “How do your folks feel about it?”
“They don’t know yet.”
“Well, I’m sure Kadie and Sofia will be glad to have you here,” Saintcrow said. “When do you plan to move in?”
Kincaid looked at Rosa, one brow raised.
“I don’t know,” she said. “I should probably give them at least a weeks’ notice at work.”
“Well, I’ll leave the two of you to work out the details,” Saintcrow said. “While you do that, I’ll go tell Kadie we’re going to have some new neighbors.”
Rosa called Micah later that night after Jake brought her home.
“Hey,” he said, “what’s up?”
“Oh, nothing.” Rosa nibbled on her lower lip. She had intended to tell him she was moving in with Jake, but she’d lost her nerve as soon as she heard Micah’s voice. “Dad seems to be doing okay. I’ve talked to him a couple of times.”
“Uh huh. I went by your apartment three times today and you weren’t there.”
The perfect opening. “I went to Morgan Creek.”
“What the hell for? And what’s that got to do with anything?”
“I went with Jake. He asked me to move there with him.”
“What? Are you out of your ever-lovin’ mind?”
“I don’t think so.”
“I’m not so sure. How long have you known Kincaid? A couple of weeks? And you’re ready to move in with him?”
“I like it there,” she said defensively. “And Ethan and Sofie live there.”
“Yeah, yeah. What’s the real reason?”
“I love him, Micah. We aren’t going to share a room or anything. I won’t have to pay rent. I’ll have a bigger house. And I’ll be close to my favorite sister and her husband.”
“At least there’ll be someone around to keep an eye on you,” he muttered.
“Very funny, big brother. Say hi to Mom and Dad and Holly for me.”
“Any chance I can talk you out of this?”
“I don’t think so.”
‘Well, at least I can tell mom and dad I tried.” He was silent a moment. “Rosie?”
She frowned at the serious tone of his voice. “What?”
“You haven’t done anything stupid, have you?”
“No. Stop worrying. I promised I wouldn’t do anything without telling you first.”
