“All right. See you soon.”

Smiling, Rosa ended the call. She sat there a moment, just feeling happy, then decided to go to the beauty parlor, treat herself to a manicure, and perhaps a new dress.

After all, she had a hot date with a smokin’ hot guy.

Chapter Fifteen

Late that afternoon, Kincaid found Saintcrow in the graveyard, one shoulder propped against the tall, marble cross. “What the hell are you doing here?”

Saintcrow shrugged. “It’s quiet and peaceful.”

“It’s creepy.”

Saintcrow laughed. “You’re a vampire, for crying out loud. Don’t tell me you’re afraid of ghosts.”

“Of course not.” Kincaid glanced at the rows of wooden crosses. Must be a hundred or more, he mused, men and women who had mysteriously gone missing, never to be heard from again. “Doesn’t it bother you to come here, knowing you’re responsible for the deaths of most of the people buried here?”

“Think of it as my penance. I come here to remind myself of what I was before I met Kadie.” Of course, he wasn’t personally responsible for all the deaths, but the guilt was his.

“Well, she’s changed you, that’s for damn sure. So, what did you want to see me about?”

“Rhinehart’s looking for you. He wants to know why Luca can’t find you.”

Kincaid rubbed his thumb over the wide gold band on his left wrist. “Tell him to keep looking. I’ve got nothing to say to him.”

“I kinda thought you’d say that.”

“Why don’t you just exterminate the man and be done with it? Or let me do it? He’s getting to be a pain in the ass.”

“He’s one of the best, but he’s no real threat to either of us,” Saintcrow replied with a shrug. “Besides, I can’t just kill him out of hand. Kadie would never forgive me.”

“I’d gladly do it for you, but I don’t think Rosa would be happy about it, either,” Kincaid said dryly. “Looks like we’ve both changed.”

“Yeah, well.”

“What about Luca?” Kincaid asked. “Can you take him, too?”

Saintcrow shrugged. “Maybe. Witches are hard to read. I don’t know if he’s as powerful as Rhinehart thinks.”

“And if he is? The two of them together could make a formidable foe.”

“Let’s not go looking for trouble.” Saintcrow pushed away from the monument. “I guess you’re going out with Rosa tonight.”

“I can’t seem to stay away from her.”

“Things seem to be getting serious between you two.”

Kincaid nodded. “I’ve never felt this way about any other woman. To tell you the truth, I don’t know what to do about it.”

Saintcrow arched one brow. “There’s only two things you can do. You either try to make it work or you cut and run. Either way, you’ll likely break her heart.”

“Fat lot of help you are.”

“You need to decide what you want before things go too far. She’s a nice girl. I’d hate to see her get hurt.”

“Yeah, me, too.”

“Just take it slow. Although time might solve your problem. She’s only going to be here another couple of days before her vacation’s over and she goes back home. If things don’t work out between the two of you, she can write it off as a summer fling and move on. No harm, no foul.”
