He kicked the door shut behind them, his eyes hot when they met hers. “Rosa, don’t make me wait any longer.”
“I’m here,” she said with a saucy grin. “But the bed’s in there.”
Somewhere between the living room and the bedroom, their clothing disappeared.
Holding her close with one arm, Kincaid tossed the bedspread aside, then lowered her gently to the mattress. He held her close, his dark eyes filled with desire as he kissed and caressed every inch of her until she was wild with wanting him, her own hands eager as she explored the width of his shoulders, his hard flat belly, the taut muscles in his arms that quivered at her touch. He was beautiful to look at, heaven to touch.
And then he was rising over her, eyes blazing, as he whispered that he loved her more than life.
She gasped, a mingled whimper of pain and pleasure as he possessed her. She writhed beneath him, desperate for something that seemed just out of reach until one last thrust carried her over the edge and there was only wave after wave of pleasure as he moved deep within her. She grasped his shoulders, her fingernails digging into him as the world seemed to explode around her in a kaleidoscope of rainbow colors.
He cried her name a moment later, shuddered violently, then collapsed on top of her.
For a moment, she couldn’t move, couldn’t think, could only lie there, waiting for her breathing to return to normal.
When he started to roll over onto his side, she wrapped her arms around his waist, holding him in place. “Not yet,” she whispered.
“I must be heavy.”
“You are,” she agreed with a faint smile. “But I like it.”
“Did I hurt you?”
“Only a little, at first.”
Lifting up on his elbows, he brushed a kiss across her lips. “It will never hurt again.”
“It was worth it.”
“High praise, indeed,” he murmured.
“I love you, Jake.”
“And I love you, my sweet girl, more than you can imagine.” In spite of her protests, he rolled onto his side, carrying her with him, their bodies still locked intimately together. He smoothed his hand over her hair, unable to believe she was his. Lawfully and legally his. He smiled faintly as, with a sigh, her eyelids fluttered down and she fell asleep in his arms.
He held her for several minutes, basking in her nearness, her warmth. She had been fire and silk in his arms, curious and eager and yet shy at the same time. He had never loved anyone the way he loved this woman, he thought as he eased away from her. Her love and acceptance had filled a need he never knew he had, healed a centuries-old ache deep inside him.
Slipping quietly out of bed, he pulled a blanket over her, kissed her cheek, then pulled on his shirt, jeans, and boots. As much as he hated to leave her, even for a few moments, making love to her had fired his hunger and he needed to feed before the temptation to drink from her while she slept became overwhelming.
He kissed her one more time, warded the room against intruders, and left the hotel, happier and more at peace than he had ever been in his life.
Kadie jabbed Rylan in the side with her elbow. “What are you grinning at?” she asked. They were sitting side by side in bed. She had been reading a book. He’d been going over some paperwork.
“Unless I’m mistaken,” he said, “and you know I never am, our Rosa is no longer a maiden.”
“What?” Kadie’s eyes widened. “You mean … ”
“Yep. He’s finally had his way with her.”
Kadie bit down on her lower lip. “Did he … I mean … was she … ?”
“He didn’t take her against her will, if that’s what you’re wondering.”
“Thank goodness,” she said, momentarily relieved. And then she stared at him.
“Micah will kill him!”
“Calm down. They’re married.”
