Page 93 of The Vampire's Storm
He cleared the compulsion and Brooklyn’s eyes cleared. He hadn’t changed her memories, so all she would feel was a little disorientated.
No human knew they were able to teleport or telecommunicate. The king had made it very clear to the race that was essential and that included Brooklyn, despite her role in the lab.
“Ugh,” she said, rubbing her forehead.
“You okay?” Logan asked, releasing his arm from around her.
The need to protect her was overwhelming. He wanted to get her out of this lab right damn now.
The reason why not something he was still willing to explore.
Maybe not ever.
“Yes, I’m fine.”
“How about walking me back to my room and taking a break?” He glanced up and watched Callan go through obvious pain watching the video.
Poor fucker.
Mack was by his side, giving him strength, his hand on his back.
“All right,” Brooklyn said, her blue eyes holding his with way more trust than he deserved. “Put your shoes on.”
Logan climbed off the table and crouched down to tie up his Nike laces.
He couldn’t wait to get her alone. To kiss her. To tell her she was safe and that no one was going to hurt her. That he wanted to be the one she spent her days and nights with while she was with the Moretti’s.
No other males.
To enjoy that sexy body of hers and give her all the pleasure and protection she deserved.
The warm blush on her face when he’d opened his eyes and seen her first had filled his chest with way too much joy for a male who’d spent his life being an assassin.
Whether he deserved her or not was one thing, but given she was changing his rigid opinion of humans with every taste he got of her, Logan figured there had to be a reason she was in his life.
Not that he was philosophical.
Perhaps he was seeking a reason for all of this.
For his reaction to her.
One that didn’t end with...
He might be able to accept he wanted to fuck the daylights out of her on the regular, but these emotions were rushing at him like a freight train.
First, he needed Brooklyn in his arms to make sure she was okay. So that he was okay. Apparently, being her protector was his new job.
The Moretti king was a powerful and potent vampire. What she was witnessing was unprecedented and, hell, maybe it was him that wanted her out of there in case things erupted.
Vampires may have lived among humans for thousands of years, but they were vastly more powerful, and right now the balance had never been more unstable.
He would protect Brooklyn.
And if Willow and the little princess were being kept in that fucking BioZen lab, then Logan would volunteer to be part of the team to retrieve them.
Then blow the fucking building up and everyone in it that worked there.
Sage was the only human who had done anything to help Callan. None one else who ever worked there deserved to live as far as he was concerned.
