So he wasn’t surprised that when they got to the door of the center, she slid on the brakes. Logan was almost impressed with her strength.
“I can’t—" Brooklyn started.
His eyes dipped to hers. “What’s wrong?”
She wrapped her arms around her middle and chewed her lip. “I should just go back to my room.”
A warrior pushed through the doors and Logan moved his body protectively, blocking her from the guy.
He nodded at him and watched as Brooklyn eyed the vampire.
She’s scared. That’s how she used to look at me.
Then he realized she had her hand on the back of his bicep and had curled her fingers around it.
An odd feeling surged through him, his chest constricting as he turned to her.
If anyone was going to scare his little mouse, it was going to be him.
“Brooklyn,” Logan rasped, his hand cupping her neck. “No one, and I can’t emphasis this enough, no one is going to touch you or look at you while you are in there with me. Are we clear?”
Blink.
Blink.
Blink.
“Stop blinking and speak.” He rumbled.
“Why?” she whispered.
“Why?” His voice an octave higher as he grinned.
The answer might scare her a whole lot more than she already was, but she was his to scare.
“Simple, sweetheart.” He placed his arm back in the small of her back and nudged her inside. “Because I’m an assassin.”
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
Simple, sweetheart. Because I’m an assassin.
Oh, my god.
One minute Logan was telling her it was dangerous to run outside. Then recommending she work out with an assassin.
Was he fucking insane?
Yes, he was.
Yet Brooklyn walked beside him into the training center and apparently trusted him.
So who’s the crazy one?
Then again, it wasn’t like she could talk.
She was responsible for the death of her own twin brother. Sure, it was slightly different, but taking a life was taking a life.
Brooklyn pushed back thoughts of Brad and slapped at Logan as he lifted her onto a treadmill. “I can do it. You just keep those giant testosterone predators away.”
