“We will have our production situation sorted very soon,” he said, his Italian accent thick.
Jesus he hated this vague bullshit.
“When?”
“Soon.”
For the love... “Enzo, I thought you understood the stakes here—”
“As I said, these things take time. The feds have been on our heels, so if we are to set up a new location then we need to know they will not find it,” the mob boss replied. “You think setting up a laboratory when you’re used to dealing with drugs and arms won’t draw attention?”
Nikolay grunted.
The man had a point. But it was also not his problem.
“The feds won’t be an issue anymore. I have captured a vampire.” Nikolay didn’t believe they were the feds—more like people working for the vampires. There was no way the human authorities knew about vampires or there would be mass exposure. “Prepare to start moving fast in a few days.”
“An assumption.” More smoke blowing out. “You think the humans are protecting vampires?”
No, he didn’t, but he also wasn’t telling his enemies-now-partners more than they needed to know.
“Area 51.” Nikolay shrugged.
The Italian burst into laughter. “You believe in aliens? What do you put in that vodka of yours?”
Cunt.
“I believe nobody tells the truth. Including gangsters. How close are you to having the new location set up?”
Another puff of goddamn smoke.
“A week. Ten days maybe.”
Nikolay rubbed his jaw.
Did no one work with fucking urgency? They were juggling dynamite right now.
And he knew he was sitting on a time-bomb holding the Moretti royal.
He hadn’t told Elizabeth about his new prisoner. She would be mad with him. Not because she had sympathy for vampires, but the baby would trigger her.
Hell, if he was being honest, he hadn’t been expecting an infant, but fucking Demetri said he didn’t feel right about leaving the baby on the ground.
So much for being a dangerous Russian gangster.
Perhaps becoming a father was making him soft. He’d told his men to provide his captive with diapers and water for her baby.
They would also need food.
After all, he needed them alive. Otherwise, how could he threaten Vincent Moretti with a couple of dead bodies?
CHAPTER SIXTEEN
Logan tossed and turned, finding it difficult to get comfortable and sleep.
After the orange lights had switched off and they were sure there was no threat, he had returned to his quarters to sleep.
I’ll be heading home next week to see my parents.
