Page 62 of The Vampire's Storm
Yes, he knew not all humans were evil, but they all had it in them to make a bad decision. Take the Second World War; turning a blind eye or even joining in with the absolutely unacceptable behavior toward one race of people was, in a word, disgusting.
Few spoke up during that time.
Sure, most didn’t know exactly what was about to happen to millions of those loaded onto trains and taken away. But it didn’t take a whole lot of brain cells to figure out that all people were equal.
Did it?
And was he being hypocritical?
Not wanting to have sex with a race he didn’t respect or like wasn’t hypocritical, it was a choice. And if you took away the fact he was an assassin, he wasn’t hurting anyone.
That sounded less insane inside his head.
He’d made his decision. He wasn’t fucking a human. Even one he craved.
End of story.
Fuck this. If he couldn’t sleep, he may as well go workout.
LOGAN STRODE DOWN THE same corridors he’d been walking just hours before and let out a yawn. Then slid his phone into his gray sweatpants.
It wasn’t going to be his best work out of the year, but it might be distracting enough to get his mind off Brooklyn.
“Hey man.” Marcus slapped him on the shoulder as he and Kurt headed in the opposite direction.
“All good?” he asked, walking backward.
The two big vampires nodded.
“Yeah, long day, but we’re headed to bed for a few hours’ sleep. See you at the next meeting,” Kurt replied, rubbing his forehead, looking tired.
“Sleep well.”
He then continued on his way.
From his rooms, Logan had to go via the main foyer to get to the training center. As he passed the large entrance, he noticed the doors were open, because at seven it was dark enough and the castle was coming alive.
The tw—What the hell?
Brooklyn stood in the doorway staring out into the night in a pair of lycra shorts, a tight little top and a pair of runners on her feet. Which meant she had completely ignored his instruction about not going out for a run.
Goddamn her.
He suddenly found himself standing right next to her with his hands on his hips.
“The hell are you doing?” he growled.
Brooklyn jumped.
Like one of those cartoon characters. Literally launched off the ground straight up into the air.
“Christ. Logan. You could have given me a heart attack!” she cried, slamming her hand on her chest.
“Your heart is beating just fine,” he grunted. “But if you want to keep it fucking beating, you need to stay in the castle.”
Brooklyn frowned. “I can’t stay caged inside. I need daylight.”
He stared at the dark night sky and back at her.
