Page 89 of The True Garza
I hang up and resist the pressing urge to throw my phone across the room. Why did I do this to myself? Why get in bed with a known fuckboy, then get mad when he does exactlywhat fuckboys do?
With furious fingers, I fire off a text to Jules.
Me: On second thought, go ahead and give the hot contractor my number.

I’m deep inbusting ass inHades, at my little gaming nook in my room, when a loud knock sounds at the door.
I shift my headphones from one ear, but continue to play. “Yeah?”
The knob turns. The door opens. And I’m expecting Brook to breeze in, dive onto the bed with a bag of chips and bother me as usual, but she doesn’t. Neither is she saying anything. Which prompts me to shift my attention from the computer screen to the doorway.
What the hell?
True Garza is standing outside my bedroom door. And I hate my heart, my stupid heart, for leaping at the sight of him. All fresh-faced and tall, broad and muscled. Casual in sneakers, jeans, and an olive-green tee that stretches across his lumberjack chest.
Why do I want to kneel before him right now like a loyal pet, begging for a treat? My witless, unruly attraction to him pisses me off. What’s so damn special about him, anyway? Nothing. He’s just anotherman. Why can’t my dumbass ovaries get that?
“Brook!” I bellow, so she’ll hear me from wherever she’s hiding her traitorous face. “I’m going tokillyou!”
“Sorry!” she calls back. “He bribed me with Toni’s Wine Cream. Youknowhow hard it is to get here.”
Sellout.
“What on earth are you doing here?” I demand, putting on a brave face.
He steps into the room. “Told you I was coming. Why aren’t you ready?”
“Do you not know whatfuck offmeans?”
He frowns, closing the door behind him. “Are you still mad about me not giving you my cock that morning?”
My clit throbs angrily at the torturous memory. “I’m not ‘mad’ about anything. I just don’t wanna go anywhere with you. What about that is so hard to comprehend?”
“Why not?”
He can’t possibly be this clueless. “Look, I enjoyed our one-night stand. Let’s just leave it at that. I’m not interested in repeats.”
His jaw tightens at that. In much the same way Trent’s had when he tried to get me to go to HR and I told him the same thing. What is it about the term that gets under their skin?
True moves farther into the room. “C’mere.”
Shit. “No.” Every nerve in my body prods at me to move, but I dig my fingers into my palms and fight against it. “Please leave.”
He regards me for a beat, then takes another step. “Want me to come to you, then?”
Defenses haphazardly thrown up, I remove my headphones and straighten from the chair. If he gets any closer, I’ll cave. I’m strong and daring and sometimes fearless… except when I’m in his presence. “What Iwantyou to do isleave. You’re invading my privacy. Don’t make me have to file a report.”
My threat is empty, and he knows it. “Are you gonna make me come to you, London?”
“Please. Leave.” The words came out just above a whisper. Halfhearted and unwilling. Because what I really want to say isplease come.
Done waiting, True strides toward me. Presses his palm flat against my stomach and drives me back against the wall. Roiling heat spreads throughout my body from where his fingers are splayed on my belly.
“Lift your hands above your head.”
