I swear I can hear her rolling her eyes at me through the phone. “Tait, I swear I’ll kick your ass if you hurt her. She’ll be in over her head if you start anything. Just be careful and think with your actual head, not the one between your legs.”
“Emily, it’s nice that you care so much, but Sam is an adult and can make up her own mind with whom she wants to have sex with. She has to make her own choices, and you have to let her.”
“Her ex was crazy, and it took her a while to get over things. I just want to keep her safe. The paparazzi are going to be all over her if they find out she’s sleeping with you. Not to mention, she has to work with you, and I’m sure she’ll have issues with trying to differentiate between you asking her as her boss to do something, versus you asking her as her fuck buddy. It’s a fine line to walk, and you have to make sure you make it perfectly clear to her.”
“I understand, and I’ve already put something in play that keeps the terms of pleasure and business separate.”
She sighs. “Tait, I’ve known you for a few years now. Your life is a revolving door of women. She’s going to need more than that. That’s all I’m saying about it.”
“Well, now that you’ve said your piece, I would like to eat dinner alone. Thanks for checking in, Emily. I’ll talk to you later.”
“Night, Tait.”
I hear the phone click off and I’m left alone. I want to text Sam and ask her if she wants to have dinner with me, but I think better of it. She needs time to process my proposal, and I don’t want to crowd her. The clock reads six-fifteen. I have an early morning call tomorrow, so I’d better get to bed soon anyway. I finish dinner, my pre-dinner activity, shower, and turn the lights out by eight-thirty.
She’d better accept tomorrow.I need more relief than my hand can provide me.

The ride toset this morning was quiet. She wouldn’t talk to me except for the morning pleasantries. I have a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach, but I don’t want to ask her about it until we discuss my proposition tonight. It’s very early, five-thirty in the morning, and I’m in makeup. She sits on the small chair in the corner of the trailer, reading. Her legs are pulled under her, and a smile is plastered on her face.
“What are you reading over there that’s making you smile this early in the morning?”
She looks up, and we lock eyes in the mirror. “Just a book.”
Someone knocks on the trailer door. “We’re ready for you,” he calls from the other side.
“All right, Tait. Get into your costume and get on set.” Betty gathers her items and leaves as I pull my suit from the hanger. I dress in silence, and Sam helps me pull the jacket up over my shoulders.
“Can I get you anything right now?”
“How about a kiss for good luck?” I smirk. I’m not above trying to sway her my way. I know what I want, and I know she wants it, too. The way she looks at me when she thinks I’m not looking says it all.
“How about no kiss but I’ll say good luck.” She looks up at me through her lashes, and a small smile tugs at her lips. I take a step closer and take her hand in mine, intertwining our fingers. The heat radiating through her small hand sets me on fire. I know I shouldn’t do this, but I can’t help it. I lean my face closer to hers and watch as her eyes flutter closed, waiting for me to close the gap. Her breath plays on my face, and I can see her chest rising and falling rapidly.
A knock on my door breaks the spell. I stand up tall, drop her hand, and walk out with her hot on my heels to get to set.
Chapter 14
What the hell just happened? He was about to kiss me, and I was going to let him.
Get it together, Sam!
I rush after him to the set, making sure to have a few bottles of water with me so he can have one when needed. He hits his mark, and I stand off to the side with some of the other crew and some extras that aren’t needed in the scene yet. My mind is running a hundred miles an hour, and I’m not sure I know how to process what happened.
Did I even want it to happen?
I spent the night looking over the document and marking it up with questions. I’m not a lawyer, and some of the verbiage used is out of my pay grade. I thought about calling Emily and asking for advice, but I don’t need her acting like my mother and scolding me. What Tait is presenting me with is ahugestepping stone, and all I have to do is sleep with him. Even if I don’t like it, and want to stop, I can. That doesn’t seem so hard.It is hard though! No one wants to be known as the girl who sleeps her way to the top.
I’m zoning out, running possible scenarios through my head, when Tait approaches me.
“You look like you’re thinking a little too hard about something. Care to share?” he asks.
“No, it’s fine. Water?” I ask, holding the bottle out for him.
“No, how about some coffee though? I’d kill for a cup right now.”
“Sure.” I look up and see they are changing the setup location. “Are you done with this scene? If so, I’ll bring the coffee by your trailer.”
