I lifted a furrowed brow at Eddie. “No?”
He narrowed his gaze at me. “Drop it.”
“If it was in the past, I don’t understand why it can’t be discussed.”
Eddie took a step back and pointed a finger between Molly and me. “You two know why. Drop it.”
Eddie had never been stern with me before, and I had to think it was more than just Karla signing an NDA or something to do with her being a sugar baby.
Theo cleared his throat. “So, I’m confused as fuck, but I need a drink. Let me grab my shit, and then I’ll be ready to head to the hotel.”
“I need to grab my bag too,” I advised. “I’ll be right back.”
I hurried with Theo to the room where our bags were, and then we quickly went back to the hallway where Eddie and Molly were waiting. Eddie led us to his Tesla, and after he put the address into the GPS, we headed to the hotel.
Since Theo was in the know, we followed his lead and took the elevator up to a suite that was already booming with Maze and fellow tour members.
“Drink?” Eddie asked and nudged his head toward a bar that was covered with various bottles of alcohol.
“Yes, please.” I smiled.
“Molly?” he asked.
“I … ah...” She hesitated, her gaze falling on me.
I knew why she was wary, so I said, “It’s okay. Eddie will get us home safe.”
“Right. I’ll just take a beer if they have it.”
“I’ll have a beer too,” I told him.
Eddie kissed my cheek, then he and Theo walked toward the bar.
“You doing okay?” I asked Molly.
“Of course. Why?”
“You hesitated about drinking,” I reminded her.
“Only because I want to be sober when Eddie tells us what happened to Brody.”
“Good thinking. I don’t think we’re going to get good news.”
“Why’s that?” she questioned.
“Eddie said Brody wasn’t going to jail and struck a deal.”
“What kind of deal?”
I lifted a shoulder. “I don’t know. Eddie didn’t want to get into it.”
My eyes followed as I watched Karla appear out of nowhere and make a beeline for the bar.
“What’s up with her?” Molly wondered.
I took a step closer to my friend and lowered my voice. “Pretty sure she was Eddie’s baby.”
Molly’s eyes widened. “Really?”
