Mom frowned. “You have Molly.”
“I know.” And Blake, but that was it. I hadn’t seen Grace since we’d graduated from the University of Houston or Elise since we’d graduated high school. “But Eddie is trying to help me out, remember? He’s turning into a friend.”
“That’s good.” She gave me a small smile. “Find out how Ian is doing.”
I grunted a laugh. “I’ll see.”
Right on time, the doorbell rang. I ran down the stairs, beating my mother before she could tease Eddie herself. I opened the door with a smile. “Hi.”
He grinned back. “Hey, ready for breakfast?”
The door opened wider, my mother taking control of it before I could answer. “Hey, Eddie.”
“Oh, hey, Judy.”
“Don’t mind me. I’m just leaving to head to the store.” She walked out the door and hugged Eddie.
“Business good?” he asked as they embraced.
Mom pulled back. “It’s going great. It’s good having a daughter with a business degree, even though she doesn’t use it.”
I gave her an annoyed look. “I told you I haven’t found a job yet.”
“Are you hiring?” Mom asked Eddie.
He blinked. “I …”
“Mom,” I scolded.
She held up her hands. “You won’t work for me, so I had to try.”
I rolled my eyes, and my mom waved goodbye. “Have fun, you two.”
“Sorry about that,” I huffed.
“It’s okay.” We walked toward his parked Tesla at the curb. “Your mom only wants the best for you, I’m sure.”
He opened the passenger door for me, and once he was in the car, I asked, “I don’t want a job at your company, but what is it that you do?”
He started the car. “Ever heard of Sweethearts?”
I blinked. “Yeah?”
“Me and a buddy from college created it.”
“Seriously?” My mouth fell open.
He nodded and pulled away from the curb. “Does that surprise you?”
“I … Uh, yes.”
“Why? It’s all numbers and coding. You know, right up my alley.”
“It’s more than that,” I argued. Eddie was smart enough to create an app, but I’d never known him to date when we were younger. Why did you create a dating app? “Did you start it to get laid or something?”
He snorted a laugh. “It originally started like that. We were seniors. ” He cleared his throat. “And still virgins.”
My eyes widened at his confession. “You created an app to hopefully lose your virginity?”
