"I'm terrified I’m going to trip and fall," I whisper to my mom as we reach the front of the house LJ bought here in Cape Cod.
Outside, family and friends are waiting for us.
And most importantly, the two loves of my life.
All around us are flower girls and ring bearers—children of friends and relatives—ready to toss petals down the aisle, leading me toward the altar.
My mom kisses my forehead. "If you fall, I’ll be right there with you. We’ll always be a team."
I squeeze her hand, feeling a wave of calm wash over me. I take a deep breath and step forward toward my love—and his miniature copy.
My heart is racing, but not because of a defect this time. It pounds with anticipation and joy.
A little anxiety too, of course.
Every nerve in my body feels alive, wired with emotion as I finally live the dream of marrying the only man I’ll ever love.
In my beautiful white gown, the skirt flowing around me, bouquet in my right hand, and arm in arm with my mother, I step onto the aisle—the path that will lead me to the end of the rainbow, to my private treasure: LJ and Sedric.
With every step, my eyes search for them. Some guests lean out of their seats, blocking my view a little.
But then, even without a clear line of sight, I hear it:
"Moooooommy, so pretty!"
Laughter ripples through the guests—and my mother chuckles too—but I decide right then that I’m done with protocol.
"I need to go," I tell her, and she nods.
"You have my blessing, my daughter," she says as I kiss her cheek.
I take off running—completely unconcerned about the stir I’m causing. At this point, the kids take it as a sign that they can go wild too and start chasing after me.
I pass my mother-in-law and catch her trying to hold back laughter.
Taylor and Brooklyn were right. These people are just like us—maybe just with their noses a little higher in the air.
When LJ sees me running, he steps down from the altar with our son in his arms, his strong arms forming a fortress around our boy.
"Down, Daddy," our tiny tyrant demands. As soon as his father sets him down, he bolts toward me.
I crouch and scoop Sedric into my arms—and seconds later, Lazarus wraps both of us in a hug.
"You, acting on impulse, my wife? I thought you hated attention," he teases.
"The bridal march felt way too slow. I can’t stay away from you two for that long. I don’t care about protocol. My love for you is shameless and unstoppable."
Months Later
" Bowder ?" Sedric asks, resting his head on my five-month baby bump.
"Yup, another little boy," LJ says. "You’re gonna be the big brother now, son."
"Big bowther! " he shouts, pounding his chest like Tarzan.
"Jesus, he’s going to boss the little one around. Good thing it’s not a girl."
"I still want a girl," Lazarus says.
"Let’s build a team, husband. Fill up a whole town. We’ve got a full life ahead of us."
"You turned my world upside down, Alexis. Before you, I was just an arrogant bastard."
"And now?"
"Still a bastard. Still arrogant. But now, the luckiest man who’s ever lived."
" Wowcky! " Sedric shouts.
"That’s right, buddy. Daddy’s lucky ."
