Page 9 of Take the Plunge
I hold the paperclip up. “Do you want to try? I bet you’re a regular MacGyver.”
“You’re crazy.”
I waggle my eyebrows.
He sighs. “Carry on.”
“With pleasure.” I twist the paperclip around. Click. The pink furry cuff around Jett’s wrist falls open. “Ta-da!” I take a bow. “You’re welcome.”
“Thanks. But we’re still trapped, even if we’re not attached anymore.”
“True, but at least we don’t have to follow each other into the bathroom now.”
He presses his lips into a tight line. He nods at the cuff around my wrist. “You’d better free yourself.”
“I dunno. I might leave it on. It’s a cute fashion accessory. Plus, if I’m already half-cuffed, it’ll be easier to finish the job later.” Did I say that out loud?
From the way Jett is gaping at me, I did. I should stop talking.
“Are they”—he snaps his mouth shut—“yours?”
“No, but I might keep them. I think Rufus owes me a pair of kinky handcuffs, don’t you?”
Jett walks away, shaking his head and muttering under his breath.
I undo my cuff. It’s faster the second time, or maybe it’s easier now I don’t have an audience. I leave the cuffs and the bent paperclip on the desk and search for Jett.
He’s in the sitting room, looking under every cushion possible.
“What are you doing?” I ask.
“Trying to find my laptop.”
I fold my arms and lean against the wall, watching as he searches every nook and cranny of the room with a fervour that’s part amusing, part sexy.
“We’ve already searched everywhere,” I remind him.
“I’m looking again.”
“Why? Do you have something fun on there?”
“I need to work.”
“Or you could relax.” I gesture to the stack of DVDs. “Choose a film while I go make us some breakfast. I could do toast, cereal, or a full English.”
Jett’s mouth quivers, and he goes a little green.
“Or I could make us some coffee.” I tilt my head. “Although giving you caffeine might not be a good idea. You’re so highly strung already.”
“Is caffeine a good idea for you? I couldn’t handle it if you get any more peppy.”
“Peppy? I’ve never been called that before. Thanks for the compliment.”
“It wasn’t a compliment,” he grumbles.
“Funny, it sounded like one. Coffee for two coming up.”
“Kian.”
