Page 7 of Take the Plunge

When I wake up, Jett is snoring. It’s a gentle sound, more heavy breathing than a nasal snort. I’ve dreamt about waking up in bed with him. Handcuffs might have featured in a few of my fantasies. But not like this. This is fucked up.
As he wakes up, he snorts a couple of times. It’s adorable.
“What time is it?” he asks.
“No idea.” Pale yellow sunlight sneaks into the room through the gap above the curtain rail. “I don’t know how long we’ve been asleep either. How are you feeling?”
“Better.” He rubs one half of his face. “I need to brush my teeth.”
“Me too. There should be a spare toothbrush in the bathroom. Oh, and I’m feeling better too. Thanks for asking.”
He scowls at me.
“It’s nice to know you care.”
“I’m glad you’re feeling better.”
“Thanks.”
I drag him out of bed, into the bathroom, and find him a spare toothbrush in the cupboard. We stand side by side in front of the mirror, brushing our teeth with opposite hands. Once we’re done, I glance at the shower. I would love to get out of these clothes and get clean, but that might freak Jett out.
We search the top floor for our belongings, but our phones and bags with clothes for the weekend are nowhere to be seen. We don’t fare any better downstairs.
“They took our shoes.” Jett’s scowl is so deep I’m afraid it’s going to etch itself onto his face. That would be a shame, even if his scowl is a little bit sexy. “And our clothes, our phones, my laptop. Fuckers.” He clenches his fists, which puts a little tension on the chain between the cuffs.
“At least they left us with plenty of food.”
He glares at me, his dark brown eyes stormy. “Did you say there was a phone in the office?”
“This way.”
He stomps alongside me to the office. Then we stand and stare.
“Where’s the phone?” he asks.
“It should be on the desk.”
Except it isn’t.
We look on the desk, beside it, under it, and behind it.
Jett lifts up the phone cable. “They took the fucking phone. It’s fucking miles to the main road. How do they expect us to hike there with no shoes and socks?”
“I don’t think they do.”
“This is bad.”
“Rufus’s note said they’d come back tomorrow night to pick us up.”
“That’s hours away! What are we supposed to do for two days?”
Have wild passionate sex. That would take up a lot of time.
I shrug. “Watch DVDs?” The house doesn’t get a TV signal, but we have built up a decent DVD collection over the years.
“How are you so calm about all this?”
