“Interesting.” Seth leaned back in his seat, rubbing his chin. “I wonder if it’s possible this Fae did something. Wyn, can you reach out to the resistance and ask someone you trust? If the Fae are the ones who actually started this whole thing, they’re up to a whole hell of a lot more than just getting back at the Venandi.”

Wyn pulled his phone out and typed on the screen for several moments before setting it back down.

“I’ve asked Gary to talk to Lario. Felicity, he may want to ask you some questions. You don’t need to be afraid though, kid. You’re safe now.” He reached over and ruffled her hair. She looked a hell of a lot younger than she really was.

“I’m not sure I can help with anything, but I’ll do what I can. It’s the very least I can do.” She glanced back over her shoulder and met my gaze. “Shifters don’t deserve what we’ve done to them.”

My bear grumbled and I gave her a nod of acknowledgment.

“Let’s focus on one thing at a time.” Seth stood. “Axel, I’ll help finish dinner. Wyn, why don’t you get your cousin set up in one of the other bedrooms until the food is ready?”

Wyn took Felicity’s hand and they moved off across the house to where the smaller bedrooms were. She hadn’t brought anything with her it seems. Which was probably smart, but she’d have to start over again.

“What do you think?” Seth pulled out peppers and onions from the bottom drawer in the fridge.

“I think it sounds fishy.” I passed a knife to him. “A Fae just shows up, they let him in, and suddenly, they’re attacking even though they had a treaty with them. They’re attacking extremely erratically.”

“Yes, and that’s what concerns me. If the Fae are up to something, why now? Why the Venandi? Is it just to get rid of them because of what they’ve done to shifters and others, or is it because the Venandi are really the only protection humans have against them?” Seth slowly started to cut up the vegetables. “It just opens up a whole new can of worms.”

We continued to get dinner put together. We could hear Wyn talking to Felicity softly. She had started to cry at one point. By the time food was ready, she’d quieted down.

None of us talked while we ate. Wyn was on his phone, talking to Gary while he ate in between texts. Seth was in his own little world as he thought on the situation. Felicity finished her dinner quickly, took her dishes to the sink, and went back to the room that Wyn put her in to sleep.

When I started to load the dishwasher, my phone went off with a text. It was from Cody.

So, we’re on our way. You know how our mate is. We’ll be there in about eight hours, according to the GPS.

I couldn’t help the snort that came out. She had told us she’d see us tomorrow. Just not what time.

You guys drive safe. We’ll see you when you get here. Felicity is safe and sleeping. Is Becca alright?

I knew it had only been less than a day, but being apart from her now felt like a piece of my soul was missing. I knew the other two felt the same way.

She’s fine. She’s feisty, I like it. She was ready to jump across that table and pummel that Fae. Oh, I fucked Jasper in front of her. She REALLY liked that.

I had started to take a drink of water when I read that and had to thump my chest as the water got stuck. Jesus. This wolf.

Cody sent several laughing faces.Nope. You’ll just have to experience it yourself.

I put my phone away as I finished my water. I looked up at the sound of a door closing. Wyn came over to the table and sat. He had a frown on his face.

“Wyn?” I sat across from him and handed him a bottle of water.

“Gary agrees with Seth. He sent the information off to Lario. We’ll see what they do with it. I have a feeling we’re still going to attack the compound as planned next week. There’s no way they would allow this opportunity to pass them by. The question now, though, is what happens after?” He took the bottle, removing the cap and sipped the water. “Thanks.”

“You know we don’t have to be here for the attack.” I was curious to see what he thought. “I don’t like having Becca here. I know she’ll insist, but if all of us agreed, we could probably convince her to let the resistance take care of it.”

Wyn shook his head. “No. I couldn’t do that. Becca wants to help, but I also owe it to those who helped me in the resistance to help them in this. The Venandi need to be stopped. This may be the only chance we have. Come what may after with the Fae.” He held the bottle between his hands, looking down at it. “A friend of mine in Alaska has agreed to give Felicity sanctuary, so she’ll be heading out tomorrow afternoon on a flight.”

“Really? That’s good.” Felicity not being here would be less stress for Becca. Although, knowing her, she’d probably still want to talk to Felicity before that. “I heard from Cody. He, Jasper, and Becca are on their way here. They’ll probably be here sometime in the very early morning.” I noticed his eyes looked slightly glazed. He hadn’t slept much during the nap and I knew for a fact he hadn’t slept the night before. “It’s been a long night. Let’s go to bed.”

Wyn even let me take his hand and lead him to bed. Seth was sitting against the headboard, working on his laptop. He closed it when we came in. He nodded at me as I gave Wyn a gentle push to the middle of the bed.

“No hanky-panky, promise, but your animal probably could use touch.” Not to mention the man, but I wouldn’t say that out loud yet.
