“At first, once that hormone started to wear off,” I watched as Becca bent over a case to look closer at a phone. “I felt horrible for wanting Becca. I didn’t understand how I could be falling for Felicity and, suddenly, want her best friend instead. Becca’s never made me feel like our feelings are wrong. She doesn’t judge. She’s an amazing woman and our beautiful mate.” Shrugging, I glanced at him again. “Thank you for coming to help her.”
We were quiet during the rest of the time we were in the small electronics shop. Becca ended up choosing the same model phone she’d had before. They were able to transfer her information from the cloud so she didn’t lose any data. She immediately went outside to call her mom. Jasper and Cody came up to us.
“I’m starving. Do you think Seth has dinner ready or should we pick something up on the way back?” Cody patted his stomach.
“We can pick up food.” Wyn looked like he was trying not to smile. “You must be starving after your romp in the store, yeah?”
“Oh snap.” Cody punched Wyn’s arm. “You got jokes.”
Chapter 25
Becca
The conversation went as well as I thought it would with Mom. She was unhappy with me but whatever Gary had come up with seemed to placate her enough that I only got a mild chewing out for not calling her sooner.
“I was worried. Just don’t go that long again, young lady.” Mom had finished her mini rant as the guys left the shop.
“I know. I’m sorry again, Mom. I’ve got to go, but I’ll talk to you tomorrow.” I’d hung up before she’d been able to go off again.
Now I was standing in the backyard across from Wyn after we all had eaten the Mexican food we’d stopped to pick up on the way back. Seth was outside with us, relaxing on one of the chaise lounges as he watched us. The others were inside doing chores.
I changed into some of the workout clothes that we purchased at Murdochs. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect with this training Wyn was going to be having me do. He wasn’t wearing a shirt, so that was a little distracting.
“Shifting should come easily to you based on how you’ve reacted to all the other changes.” He shook his hands out.
“Why is that?” I copied his movements until I saw him snicker. My hands went to my hips. “Why is this so natural? I feel like I should be overwhelmed. My hearing, sight, reflexes, hell, I’m stronger than I was before! Why am I just jumping in like it’s nothing?” I’d had a long internal conversation with myself about this very thing. My animal hadn’t been any help, she’d just chuffed at me in amusement.
Wyn rolled his head around his shoulders. “Not sure, kitten. When I changed, I had to fight to stay sane with all the changes. With you, it’s like you were a born shifter. Your animal doesn’t fight with you like mine did.” He glanced at Seth, who just shrugged. “Maybe Gary will have an idea.”
I let out a large sigh but shook my head. I was a hybrid shifter. No longer human, yet I still felt human most of the time. Except, you know, the whole having another being sharing my soul thing. Maybe there wouldn’t be an answer. It wasn’t like this was a normal thing to happen to a lot of people.
“Now, when I first shifted, it hurt. I lost consciousness for the first few minutes and that left my animal in charge. I killed two Venandi before I gained control again when I woke.”
Poor Wyn. He’d had to deal with so much shit just because of who his family was. I was glad he’d still ended up being a good guy.
He was a good mate, too. My animal made sure to point that out.
“So, when you shift, try to remember who you are. You’ll be confused, especially when you try to stand or walk. You’ll have to get used to a new body and how to move.” Wyn put his hands on his pants. “You might want to remove your clothes so you don’t end up ruining them.” He stepped out of his sweats and my brain short circuited for a few seconds.
A rumble in my chest brought my attention back. My animal was enjoying the show right before Wyn shifted. He hadn’t shifted into his wolf. This time, he’d changed into his hawk form.
Now, I knew from science classes that hawks weren’t small, but they weren’t huge either. I think I remembered a documentary talking about how they could get up to three and half pounds when full grown.
Wyn was much larger than that. He had to be the size of a medium sized child and he was beautiful.
He hopped on his talons.
Well, thank you, Becca. You’re fucking gorgeous yourself.
His voice sounded in my head. With a shriek, I fell on my ass in shock.
“What? How!” I looked around in confusion. “I heard you in my head!”
His laughter sounded in my head.I change into a hawk, and you’re concerned about hearing me in your head?
“Well, excuse me for being a little freaked out. It’s not every day that, yet again, another being is in my head!” If my glare could cause physical harm, he’d be crying by that point.
Seth moved from where he’d been relaxing. He came to stand next to me, helping me to get back on my feet.
