Page 109 of Shrouded in the Dark
Blinking my eyes open, I jumped in the air. And went pretty high up before thumping back onto the ground, my paws catching me.
Wait.
Paws.
I had paws! And fur. There was a heavy pull on my back. Looking over my shoulder, I yipped in excitement. I had a huge fluffy tail! I was in my fox form. My fur was red and warm. My tail swished in front of my face as I looked back at it.
Wow.Jasper’s soft exclamation drew my gaze. He kneeled on the ground and I came up to him, placing my chin on his knee. How can you be so beautiful?
Aw. You’re such a sweet talker.I fluttered my eyelashes at him. Oh, holy mother of cheese balls. His fingers scratched behind my ears. It was like a million fingers were stroking my hair. It felt so good.
Okay, Jasper. Let’s give her a second.Seth’s voice made the petting stop.Becca, can you change back?
I could, but where was the fun in that?I flicked my tail at him.
Are you able to control your body without fighting your animal for control?Wyn hopped over to where I still sat with Jasper. The hopping was adorable.
I’ve not had any issues with her yet. Although, she did think you hopping is cute.
Wyn’s feathers puffed up.Let’s see if you can change forms simultaneously. Don’t push yourself if you become tired. Do just like you did before.
Stepping away from Jasper, I closed my eyes again to focus. Except this time, nothing happened. No quick pain, no temperature change.
Becca?Wyn prodded at me.
Nothing’s happening.I whipped my head around.Why didn’t I change?
This wasn’t good. I couldn’t stay an overgrown fox for the rest of my life, even if I was cute and really fluffy. I started to pace.
“Don’t panic.” Seth squatted down so that he could grab my muzzle. “Change back.” His voice deepened and vibrated. There was a slight pressure in my temple. Seth blinked, looking confused. “Why isn’t she responding to the Alpha power?”
Wyn shifted and knelt next to Seth. Butt naked. If I wasn’t so concerned about not being able to shift back, I’d be enjoying the view.
Alpha power?I pulled my face away from his grip.
“I have certain perks because I’m the alpha. Which includes having the ability to command my pack members to do as I say if I pull on that power.” Seth watched me as I started to pace again. “Magic.”
I paused. That was kind of cool, but didn’t help me at the moment.
Jasper sat on the ground, patting his lap. ”Everything has come easy for Becca. We just assumed this would be the same thing.” I moved to sit in his lap, tucking my tail under my chin. His fingers ran down my back. “Young shifters sometimes get over stimulated the first few times. It’ll be okay, Becs. I have an idea.” He looked at the others. “Give us a little bit of time?”
What idea?I looked up at him.
Jasper grinned as his finger scratched under my chin. “Just give it a minute.” He glanced back up at the guys. “Please.”
I watched the guys through half lidded eyes. Oh man. The scratching under the chin was an aphrodisiac. Seth nodded and they all headed back to the house. I turned my head to make sure I could watch Wyn.
”He certainly has nice assets, doesn’t he?” Jasper tapped my nose, catching me in the act.
Yes, yes, he does and he knows how to use them.I giggled.
Jasper picked me up out of his lap, placing me next to him, and started removing his clothes. I whistled telepathically and he threw his head back in laughter before he shifted. I only got a quick look at his body and holy fuck.
Jasper in his fox form was just as stunning as before. His fur was a deeper red than mine. He stretched, his tail shaking at its tip as he shook his fur out. He rubbed our noses together.
Let’s have some fun.He bumped against me and took off into the woods.Catch me if you can!
I was right behind him. The wind through my fur felt freeing as my legs pumped. I’d never felt this before. Happiness bubbled within me and I started yipping at Jasper. He dodged around trees, under bushes, and even over a small stream of water.
