Page 60 of Secrets We Fight
He picked it up. “Going through my things?”
I crossed my arms over my chest. “That’s not the issue here. Why the fuck do you have a credit card in my nameinyour things?”
“Don’t worry about it,” he scoffed. “It’s not like you pay the bill.”
“That’s not the point. You’re committing fraud and can go to jail.”
Finn chuckled. “Are you going to call the cops?”
“Do you think this is a fucking joke?” I bellowed. My body temperature was rising, and I could no longer keep my cool. I didn’t expect my brother to be so nonchalant about the situation.
He glanced toward where Rhett and Agent Ramos stood by the door and then back at me. “Look, I needed money, so I took an advance out on the credit card. I have it under control.”
“You have your own cards. Why the fuck did you need one in my name?”
“Mine are maxed out.” He shrugged.
“Then open another one in your own name!” I roared.
Rhett took a step forward, and I cut my eyes to him. He got the hint and stepped back again.
“I did, but the last time I tried, I was denied,” Finn responded.
I balked. “What? You’ve opened up cards on your own and not paid them or something?”
“I will pay them. I just need to win—”
“Willpay them?” I threw my hands in the air and looked up at the white ceiling. “Jesus Christ, Finn. Are you paying the one in my name? Are there more?”
“I have it under control.”
“And what about Joseph Hughes?”
He blinked. “Joseph Hughes?”
“Yes!” I paced in a circle. “He came up to me in Atlantic City asking for his money.”
“Oh. Don’t worry about him.” Finn waved his hand in front of him as though it was no big deal. “I don’t go there anymore.”
“But I do, and we fucking look identical, you asshole.”
“I said I have it under control, okay?”
“You fucking better.” I snatched the credit card from his hand. “If I find out that you opened another card in my name—”
“What? You’ll tell mommy and daddy?” Finn mocked.
I was two seconds away from punching my brother in the face. Instead, Rhett strode across the room and got in the middle of us.
“We’re done here,” Rhett stated and grabbed my elbow. “Let’s go.”
I didn’t hesitate as he escorted me out of the room and toward the stairs leading up to the Residence. “Where are we going?”
“To cool off before you go back to dinner and cause a scene.”
“This was your idea,” I reminded him.
“I know.” He released my arm as Agent Day came into view.
