Page 102 of Secrets We Fight
“I know, but damn.” Declan bit his lip. “I wouldn’t mind calling him Daddy.”
“I’m going to leave before I throw up in my mouth.” I shook my head and moved toward where Rhett was talking to Day.
Day handed Rhett something, and Rhett quickly stuck it into the pocket of his shorts. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think they’d just done a drug deal.
Before I got closer, I saw Tyler and Hayden walking across the lawn. I changed my path and headed toward them.
“You guys made it.” I greeted them both with a hug.
“We had so much fun last year, we wouldn’t miss it,” Hayden said.
“But …” Tyler looked at his husband. “We might miss next year.”
“Oh?” I arched a brow.
“Can I tell him?” Tyler asked Hayden.
Hayden snorted a laugh. “You might as well now.”
Tyler turned back to me, a huge grin on his face. “We’re thinking of adopting.”
“A cat or a dog?” I grinned.
Both Tyler and Hayden chuckled and Hayden said, “Neither. We’ll probably go with a human.”
My eyes widened. “A kid? You’re thinking of adopting a kid?”
“Yeah.” Tyler kissed Hayden. “This guy isn’t getting any younger, so we figured we should start thinking about it.”
“But you just got married,” I reminded them.
“We know,” Hayden agreed. “But the adoption process takes at least eight months, if not much, much, much longer. Depends on the age of the child we will adopt. Newborns can take two to seven years.”
“Holy shit.” I was stunned, to say the least. “Here I thought I’d be the first one with a kid if Rhett and I got married.”
“When Poppy is older, she can be our babysitter,” Tyler said.
“Already pawning off your kid before you even have it?” I teased.
“You know what I mean.” He punched me playfully on the arm.
“I do, and congrats, guys. I truly mean it. You two will be great fathers.”
I hugged them again and then went over to Rhett. He was getting food from the buffet, and I stepped in line behind him and grabbed a plate too. “Just caught up with my friends and got all the gossip.”
“Yeah?”
“Rundown is Declan is hot for his straight boss, and Tyler and Hayden are going to adopt a kid.” Rhett’s mouth dropped open. “I know. I’m as shocked as you.”
“And those three”—Rhett pointed at Faye, Dylan, and Jase—“I’m pretty sure are about to have some fun of their own.”
I watched as the three hurried into the house.
“Jesus. Can this night get any more interesting?”
Rhett continued down the line of food. “Guess we’ll see.”
