Page 47 of Secrets We Fight
I leaned forward and whispered, “Pretty sure I did that last night.”
It could have been the cold, but I thought I saw a tinge of red creep up his cheeks.
I walked over to where Day and Leigh stood with their eyes on everyone around us. “Fallon and I are heading up to the top. We’ll meet you back down here soon.”
Neither of them were expert skiers, so the risk of them wanting to join us was nil, but they also wouldn’t stop Fallon from going since I’d be with him.
Day nodded and replied, “Be safe.”
“Always,” Fallon smirked.
We hopped on the ski lift, and as it began its ascent, I let go of the metal bar and reached for his hand. He squeezed my glove-covered fingers, and a grin spread across his face. It was nice to do something other couples who weren’t keeping their relationship a secret did without a second thought.
He placed his head on my shoulder when we were far enough up the mountain that no one could see us, and we continued to hold hands until we reached the top. We hopped off the lift, and instead of going directly to the run, I pulled Fallon in the opposite direction of the other skiers so we could look out over the surrounding snow-covered peaks and valleys sparkling in the sunlight.
“Wow, I’ve never taken the time to enjoy the view.”
Since we were hidden by some trees, I wrapped my arm around his shoulders. “I’m glad we get to enjoy it together.”
He turned his head to face me. “Me too.”
The chemistry between us was palpable as we stared into each other’s eyes. He leaned in closer and captured my mouth with his. We continued to get lost in each other, forgetting about the cold and snow surrounding us.
When we broke apart to take a breath, we stepped behind a group of trees to ensure no one could see us. I ripped the gloves off my hands and tangled my fingers in his hair, pulling him in for another kiss.
“I want you to fuck me so bad,” he whispered against my lips.
“Right here?” I asked.
He smiled. “Right here.”

FALLON
I staredat the notecard in my hands, but all I could think about was the man sitting next to me. Rhett consumed my every thought, and all I wanted to do was take his hand and lead him to my bedroom. Instead, I was studying for a test, and he was trying to help, but my head wasn’t in it.
“I need a break.” I sighed.
“Okay.”
I laid my head on the back of the couch. “I can’t wait until the summer when I don’t have to study.”
“Yeah? What are you going to be doing during your time off from class?” Rhett reached out and grabbed my hand.
He played with my fingers as I responded, “Hopefully interning at a law firm.”
“Oh, right. I remember that being mentioned when classes started back up.”
School had resumed a few weeks before, and things had been busy since then. In addition to attending classes and our ski trip, I’d also had to fly to D.C. for my father’s inauguration. I was officially the son of the president of the United States.
“I don’t know where,” I said. “We have to apply to law firms; they’re not just assigned because we’re in law school.”
“Right, but it will be exciting to see how law firms function and participate in different interviews.”
“For sure. I used to go to my dad’s office back in the day before he was a senator, so I’m kinda familiar with some things.”
“Did you work there when you were younger?”
