Page 43 of Secrets We Fight
“I know, but at least we can be together outside of my condo.”
He took a step toward me and cupped my cheek. “For two guys who haven’t been in committed relationships before, we’re sure in a crazy situation now, huh?”
“Yeah, but we have to try, right?”
“I want to.”
“Me too.”
He brushed his lips against mine, and with no hesitation, I deepened the kiss.
“Where were you hiding anyway so Bernard didn’t see you?” I questioned once we pulled apart.
“The manager’s office across the hall.”
“It wasn’t locked?”
“Had Perry open it for me.”
“Ah. The bartender you’ve hooked up with.” I smirked.
“Be careful what you say, baby boy. You’re here with a guy you used to fuck.”
“True.” I snorted.
Another text vibrated on my watch, and I glanced at it to see it was from Tyler.
Hayden and I are going skiing in two weeks. Want to come?
“Everything okay?” Rhett asked.
“Do you ski?”
He blinked. “Ski? Yeah, why?”
“Because when you’re back on duty, I’m taking you up the mountain and having my way with you.”

RHETT
I had never beenas happy to return to work as I was when Hawkins Law’s winter break was finally over. After the talk with Fallon in the Chrome bathroom, we made an effort to stay connected through texts and nightly phone calls until we could be together again. It wasn’t ideal, but we got through it.
Unfortunately, the first week back to school was busier than usual with the start of the new term and rowing practices ramping up. It left little time for us to be alone before and after class. By the time Friday rolled around, neither of us could wait to get on the road for the ski trip.
“Is that everything?” I asked Fallon as I placed his suitcase in the back of one of the SUVs we were taking up the mountain.
Since my colleagues and I would be working three days straight, Tanner was sending two additional agents with us, so we could squeeze in some sleep when possible. Not that I was expecting Fallon and me to sleep much if we could sneak into each other’s rooms at the house Hayden and Tyler had rented.
“Yep, and if I forgot anything, we’ll hit up a store near the ski resort.”
“Let’s go,” I called out to the other agents standing nearby.
Agents Shea and Vance climbed into one vehicle while Day, Leigh, Fallon, and I got into the other. Sitting together in the back seat with Fallon brought back memories of the first night we went to Chrome. It was then I realized it was going to be nearly impossible to fight my attraction to him.
Day turned toward us. “Are we driving straight to the house or meeting your friends at the lodge?”
“Tyler texted me and said they’re done skiing for the day.” Fallon replied. “So, we’ll meet them at the house.”
