Chapter Thirteen

Roman

His mate's heat had been intense, but Roman wasn’t complaining apart from the fact that it was actually the best sex of his life. He’d never felt his knot before since they only came out when you found your fated mate, and he had to say that was epic, but it wasn’t just the sex. Before, Roman would have bet there was nothing missing from his life, but now that he was mated, he knew that was a bet he would have lost. He couldn’t imagine his life without Devon.

If they were humans and dating, it would have probably been too quick to use the L-word, but Roman found that when you could feel someone in your soul and see into their mind, it helped you fall in love with them.

That was what had happened. He was stupidly in love with his mate, and he loved being mated… who knew?

He also knew his mate was now pregnant. He’d sensed that little gem once the heat had died down, and Ro couldn’t wait. Neither could he believe this was his life.

In three months he would be a dad.Fuck!He was so excited. If his twin could see him now, Ronin would laugh his ass off at the fact that he’d been right all along. His twin had always maintained that when he found his mate, he would fall head over heels.

He needed to check in and let everyone know they were alive. After sending a text to his alpha brother the day his mate’s heat started, Ro had switched off his phone, wanting to focus on Devon completely.

He knew his older brother and pack alpha, Rick, had gotten his text, because someone had been by to stock his fridge, and he was grateful, because they made make sure Ro was able to feed his mate.

Ro knew that once he put his phone on he would have a swarm of family at his door to meet Devon. Not that he didn’t want his mate to meet his family, he did, but he kind of like having him all to himself. Although with his family, Roman knew that wouldn’t work. Not that he minded, because they were awesome, and he knew that his mate needed all the family he could get. Besides, he needed to take his mate to meet his older brother, Ryder, who was the town and the pack doctor.

Roman turned his phone on, and he wasn’t at all surprised by how many messages he had, but he ignored all of them and called his oldest brother first.

“I see someone is back to the land of the living,” Rick teased him, when he picked up his phone.

“Hello to you too, brother.”

“So mated, huh? Who would have thought you would be the first to go?” Even though there was a teasing note in his brother's voice, Roman heard the longing there.

“The goddess has blessed me,” Roman said simply.

“She did, and we all cannot wait to meet him. Papa is the worst. I’m pretty sure dad had to restrain him to keep him away from your place.”

Roman snorted. Yeah, he could totally see that having been the case.

“I can’t wait for all of you to meet him too. Is Ronin back from his trip?”

“Not yet. He still has a few packs to visit before he comes home, but he can’t wait to meet your mate either.”

“I’ll give him a call, maybe I’ll FaceTime him, so that my mate can meet him.”

“You’re identical. I’m pretty sure he already has…” his older brother replied dryly. They both knew that was a lie. Even though they were identical, their personalities were night and day.

“Is Ryder at the clinic in town, or his home clinic?” Roman asked.

His brother paused, “I guess congratulations are in order, brother. Goddess bless your pups.”

“Thank you,” Roman said sincerely.

“I’ll call him home. He’s in town for the day,” Rick said.

“It’s fine. We can wait till he’s back,” Roman replied. He took a deep breath and said words he never thought he would have to, “Alpha, I may need your help.”

“Finn mentioned your mate was harassed,” Rick said. Roman heard his brother switch from brother to pack alpha.

“Yes, by a human, but that’s not it. When we mated, I saw something from his past…” Before he could go further, he heard a squeak and turned around to see his mate’s stricken face.

“I’ll call you back,” Roman said to his brother, and didn’t wait to hear his reply before he hung up.

His mate was backing away from him a horrified look on his face, his hand over his mouth.
