But life on the road, and solitude wasn’t good for a wolf, and was even worse for an omega. He missed the companionship, and physical contact, but better alone than dead.
“This is mine.” Roman’s voice interrupted his muddling thoughts.
Devon glanced at the alpha before looking at the house they were parked in front of.
“Wanna come inside?” Roman asked, and if he wasn’t mistaken the alpha sounded shy… hopeful.
Devon nodded, and the alpha opened the door, and got out. Devon followed suit, but was surprised to find the alpha on his side of the car.
“I was going to open… help you out of the car.” Some sort of lights had come on once the alpha parked, so he could see the man’s face clearly, and he looked like he was blushing.
“Oh, uh, sorry?” Devon apologized, since he wasn’t sure what else to do.
“No, no, it’s fine. Come on, let me show you my home.”
The alpha’s chest puffed out in pride when he mentioned his home. Devon took a moment to look around the outside. It was a two story, ranch house style home, and it looked all nice and clean.
“It looks lovely,” Devon said.
“Thank you,” Roman replied, “I built it myself.”
“You did?” Devon was impressed.
“I did. Come on, I’ll show you around. I never thought I would be bringing my mate home so soon.”
“Are you… did you not want a mate?” Devon wasn’t sure he wanted a mate, but the thought that this alpha didn’t want him as his mate, made his heart hurt for some reason.
“No,” Roman said.
Devon flinched, like he’d been struck, and stopped at the entrance to the home.
“You didn’t…” he wasn’t even sure how to finish the sentence.
“Oh no, that’s not what I meant. I definitely want a mate, I just didn’t expect you so soon, but I amveryhappy you’re here. I’ve only just finished my house, and I’m happy that I did. That’s what I meant.”
“Oh, okay.” Even Devon could hear the relief in his voice, so he knew the alpha did too.
“Come on, I’ll show you around. Feel free to change anything you don’t like. I kind of haven't done more than the basic furnishing.”
“What?” Devon blurted.
“Well, itisyour home now, and I figured you’d want to… you don’t have to.”
“No I just… I’ve never… okay…” Devon wasn’t sure how to tell the alpha he had never had a home, or even thought of having one. His whole life had been one long fight for survival. This was…wow!
He wasn’t sure what the alpha read on his face, because he said, “Don’t worry, we can take everything slowly.”
Chapter Seven
Roman
Roman had never imagined what it would be like to bring his mate home, but he could honestly say it was the best feeling ever. It was amazing and his wolf was puffed up proudly, having provided what he thought was a suitable home for their mate.
Devon had looked completely confused when Roman told him to feel free to change anything he wanted. He had to admit though, when he opened the door and saw how impressed his mate was by everything, he’d preened. Even though he hadn’t been expecting or looking for a mate, now that he had one all he wanted to do was make him happy.
After showing Devon around his home, Roman had noticed that his mate was barely staying awake, so he’d shown the omega to the guest room and told him to take a shower. He gotten a towel for Devon and left him alone.
When Devon had gone in the shower, Ro had taken a moment to put new sheets on the guest bed for his mate. He wanted the man to be comfortable. While making up the bed, he’d heard his mate moaning in the shower, and his cock had perked up. Ro had felt like a perv for listening without permission, so he’d hurried out of there, but it didn’t stop his mind from bringing up images of what could be happening in the shower. His wet, naked… naked and wet…mate.
