He tried putting the image out of his head as he made a sandwich for Devon. It was one of the few thing he had in his house. Now that he had a mate though, he really had to pop over to the store and get more food, but he would wait and ask Devon what he liked first. Or, maybe they could go together.

Ro found he didn’t want to be away from his mate just yet. Even having him in another room had his wolf all itchy, wanting to get close.

He kept an ear out for the shower, and when he heard it go off, Roman knocked on the door of the room he’d put his mate in. He’d considered putting Devon in his own room, but he didn’t want to push the omega more than he was ready for, so he put him in the guest room closest to his.

Thankfully, Ro had bought beds for all the rooms in his home, so at least he had that going.

He knocked again, and waited for his mate’s, “Come in,” before he entered.

When he walked in the room, it was to find his mate with a towel wrapped around his waist, his smooth lightly-muscled chest on display.

Ro swallowed. Goddess, he wanted to taste every inch of his mate’s skin.

“I made you a sandwich,” Roman held the plate out, and made an effort to look his mate in the eye. He didn’t want him feeling uncomfortable.

“You did… I mean, thank you,” Devon replied.

Ro had to get out of there. Being freshly showered, Devon had washed off the restaurant and food odor that had lingered on him and his clothes. All Ro could smell was his mate.

“I’ll just leave this here for you.” Ro put the plate and a bottle of water down on the chest of drawers, refusing to get any closer to his mate.

He turned to leave, but his omega stopped him.

“Wait,” Devon’s voice was soft, almost a whisper. Roman turned around and looked at his mate. His head was bent and he was playing with the edge of the towel nervously. All that did was expose a little more of his thigh to Roman’s gaze, and he hastily looked away.

“Are you…” Ro’s voice came out a little growly, so he paused and coughed, trying to get himself under control. “Is everything okay?”

Devon didn’t meet his eyes, as he said, “My clothes smell awful, and I just had a shower.”

Ro nodded, but his brain was working a little slower than usual.

“Do you… I mean can I?” his mate started speaking, but didn’t seem to know how to ask for what he needed.

Ro focused, shoving his arousal down. He thought back to his mate’s words. He’d just had a shower and he didn’t want to put on smelly clothes.Oh!

“Would you like a shirt to sleep in?” Ro asked.

His mate let out a relieved sigh, “Yes, please.”

Ro nodded, and left for his own room. He opened his drawer and was about to get Devon a clean shirt, but the idea of his mate sleeping in his clothes, surrounded by his scent, was too good to pass up, so instead, Ro picked up the tee he’d worn to lounge around after work the day before. He smelled it, and it was still clean, but it had his scent on still.

Ro took the shirt back to Devon, and instead of tossing it at his mate, or leaving it for him to get, he walked towards the omega, but he was careful not to crowd him, and stuck his hand with the shirt out.

“Thank you.” Devon met his eyes briefly, and smiled, but looked away before he saw Roman’s answering smile.

Ro noted that Devon had already eaten one of the two ham and cheese sandwiches he had laid out for him, and that made him happy. It was only something small, but he was taking care of his mate.

“Do you need anything else?” Ro asked.

“No, thank you,” Devon replied.

Even though he wanted to linger in the room, Roman had no reason to.

“Sleep tight, if you need anything, I’ll be right next door. I hope you know you’re safe with me.”

Devon glanced up at him and nodded once, before looking down at his plate again.

“Okay well… good night, Devon.”
