Now Rebel.

It would be an easy fix if he’d almost lost his children because of enemies. Butthis? His wife and daughter attacked by a fuckingfamily member? A motherfucker Megan carried inside her and nurtured? A twin Rebel protected?

Signs of an epic battle littered the natatorium. Broken glass. A discarded ice pick. Upended tables. Drops of blood.

Fury rose inside him, and he snatched his.9mm from his side holster, aiming it at Rule’s head. Just as he pulled the trigger, Mort knocked his hand away so forcefully that the bullet hit the water.

“Get Rule out!” Mort orderedsomeone, struggling to wrestle the gun away from Christopher. “First Diesel, now you.”

Christopher wouldn’t question the words. He had an idea of their meaning. “Fuck you, Mortician. Rule tried to kill Megan and Rebel! He fuckin’ dead.”

Bishop, Potter, and Narci marched Rule by Christopher, surrounding him.Protectingthat motherfucker.

Growling, Christopher lunged, punching the side of Narci’s head and grabbing Rule’s throat. Fear flared in the boy’s green eyes. Hands forced Christopher away while Bishop and Potter grabbed Rule and yanked him in the opposite direction, pulling Rule to safety.

Christopher struggled to free himself.

“That’s your kid, Outlaw,” Val said, one of the motherfuckers preventing him from ripping Rule’s head off.

“You have to see to Meggie,” Stretch said.

“And Rebel,” Cash added.

“Axel could use a little comfort too,” Digger said.

“I want that motherfuckerdead,” Christopher snarled, unable to get away from the grip of Val, Digger, Cash, and Stretch.

“Now not the time, Prez,” Mort said frantically.

“This way,” Roxanne said, leading EMTs into the crowded natatorium.

Megan didn’t want to let go of Rebel or leave her. However, she also needed an ambulance because of extremely high blood pressure, possibly broken ribs, and various other injuries, including a concussion, so she relented and ordered Christopher to accompany Rebel.Later, he learned Kendall rode with Megan, while Zoann and Bailey saw to motherfucking Rule and got him away from Christopher. But he wouldn’t always be hiddenwherever.

That motherfucker was dead.

Chapter Forty-Eight

Once again, it was left to Christopher to sit with a daughter because his woman was admitted to the hospital as well. Megan had a concussion, a stab wound, bruised ribs, raised blood pressure, cuts, and contusions.

So far, Rebel was expected to make a full recovery. She, too, had a concussion and a collapsed lung. Mammalian diving reflex or diving response was mentioned to Christopher, something that likely helped her to survive. That, and her not being underwaterfor very long.

Until she remembered what happened and started to cry. Rule broke her fucking heart, which made Christopher hate him a little more.

As daybreak swallowed dawn, Father Wilkins convinced Christopher to let him see to Rule. He allowed the priest’s intercession, so he could concentrate on his wife and daughter.

Rebel’s hand moved, and Christopher’s gaze flew to her face.

“Daddy?”

Standing from his chair, he took the two steps to reach her bedside, bent, and kissed her forehead. “Hey, baby.”

“Where’s Momma?”

“Your ma fine. She restin’.”

Tears pooled in her blue eyes, mirrors of Megan’s and Big Joe’s. She turned her head toward the window. It was dark again. Nearly twenty-four hours had passed. “She left for home already?”

Rebel didn’t know her ma saved her. When she awakened in the ER, Christopher had been so glad, and then so angry at her pain over Rule, he hadn’t filled in the blank spots in Rebel’s story.
