The fast clip of boots resounded. A moment later, Mortician ran into view. “I got the alert and had to get dressed—” He stopped talking as he took in the scene. Aunt Meggie sobbing over Rebel, both of them wet. Axel leaning against his mother in tears. “Fuck. Where Prez?”

“What the fuck?” Val asked, Cash, Stretch, and Digger hot on his heels.

CJ pressed a button on Ransom’s phone, killing the feed. “Try to hold it together, Ransom. Understand? When you go to Dad’s office, talk to him as calmly as possible. We need to see to Mom and Rebelbeforewe fucking kill Rule. If you upset him, he will go in with guns blazing.”

“He won’t risk Mom,” Ransom said, already calming down.

CJ’s stalling tactic served its purpose.

“I didn’t show you the video of the fight between Rule and Rebel or Rule and Mom,” Ransom said.

CJ gritted his teeth. “He fought both of them?”

Ransom nodded. “Rebel was beating his ass, then he pretended he wanted to make up. The minute she turned her back, he hit her in the head, knocked her out, and dragged her under the water. M-Mom came in two or three minutes later. She was fighting to save Rebel and trying to calm Rule down.”

“Reb was under water a while?” CJ said,his voice wavering.

“No. Mom dragged her out. That’s when Rule attacked Mom.” Ransom bowed his head. “Mom fought hard, but Rule’s taller than her and he…he…he stabbed her with an ice pick—”

“Get Dad,” CJ instructed, rising to his feet and heading toward the door.

Vaguely aware of Bishop, Grant, and Ryan rushing behind CJ, Diesel followed in their wake, shell-shocked. Any anger and resentment he might’ve felt toward Rebel over Kaia flew out of his brain.

In its place—vengeance.

10:10PM

Christopher reached for his cigarettes, to leave his office and go in search of CJ. As it was, Megan had shown an amazing amount of grace, but Christopher knew better than to push it. If he stayed past 10:15, he might find an even unhappier wife, especially since he’d forgotten his fucking phone. Something he realized earlier when he wanted to call Megan and tell her about Eliza Bart.

Hopefully, her phone would help to either prove Nyx guilty or innocent. But the club had a fucking problem, and his name was motherfucking Bash.

Christopher needed to put the fucking pieces together.Stat.Molly was still missing. Judging from the blood they’d found in that coffin, she was probably dead. Tom Harris was also still a ghost in the fucking wind. Wally Bart, Jr., supposedly a Gnome, was probably a Scorpion.

Before they fucked up Nugget, he swore that wasn’t the case.

He’d claimed Megan was mistaken, which pissed Christopher off so fucking much, he’d shot the fuck out of him and sent a dead ass into the flames.

Megan knew the fucking difference between a fucking scorpion and a motherfucking gnome. Even if the two clubs had similar emblems—which they didn’t—she sure the fuck knew how to read.

His office door flew open, and Ransom rushed in.

Seeing the tears on his face. Christopher jumped to his feet, alarmed. He hadn’t seen his son cry in years.

“What the fuck’s wrong, boy?”

Ransom snatched Christopher’s phone from his jacket pocket and held it out to him.
