Tabitha shook her head frantically. “Please don’t betray my husband! Please! I love him so much! I just want Aunt Meggie to like me. And…and…and she would be out of the way foryouto do whatever you need to do.” She lowered her false lashes. “Whatever that might be.”
Although he wouldn’t take the bait, Johnnie felt sorry for the girl. Her words also vindicated Matilda.HeknewMattie was sweet and innocent, led astray by a child gone wild.
Christopher had the fucking audacity tochastiseJohnnie when he needed to get his own slutty daughter in hand. By the time she was sixteen, she’d be more diseased than his half-sister, Celia, had been at that age. He suspected Rebel was fucking Bishop, too.
Rage poured into Johnnie. It made him even more determined to bring Kendall back to his side. Tabitha was right. With Megan out of the way for a few days, he could make his own moves.
“When do you want Megan to leave?”
“As soon as possible. I have everything all set up. I just have to get her there. She will be so surprised.”
“How does that fix the Rebel problem?”
The little whore. If she raised her hands to him again, he’d not only spank her like she deserved but he’d call out her behavior. He wouldn’t put Diesel on blast. Hewouldmake sure Christopher, Megan, CJ, and the entire club knew Rebel spread her legs for grown men.
“I have a two-step plan,” Tabitha said, calmer. “Once I take care of Aunt Meggie, then I can handle Rebel.”
“She doesn’t like the dark. I don’t know if she’ll like the seclusion.”
“Rebel?”
“Megan. She’s always hated to sleep in the dark.” He couldn’t remember if she told him that or if he’d heard it somewhere else. “A cabin might not be the best idea.”
“It is. I swear! It’s adorable. Well lit with all the amenities you can dream of.”
He had to state the obvious since she seemed clueless. Wherever Megan went, Christopher would want to go. “There’s no fucking way Christopher will let her go alone to a fucking cabin.”
She brightened. “They can go together. Don’t you think they need the time alone after everything that’s happened?”
Fuck,Johnniealmost needed time alone after watching Christopher strangle Torie, walk over her fucking body, and order him to run her through the woodchipper.
The scene shook Johnnie to his core.Toriecould’ve beenhim. It would’ve been him if Megan hadn’t reinstated him on her No-Kill List.
Johnnie met Tabitha’s dull eyes. She looked so distressed.
“They won’t leave until after Jo is released from the hospital,” he said.
“Are you sure?”
He nodded. “Positive.”
More tears rushed to her eyes. “I hope my marriage survives until then. S-suppose Rebel turns up pregnant?”
“Poetic justice,” he said coldly.
“Will you tell me if you can convince them to leave earlier?”
Johnnie nodded. “Their absence will be good for all involved. How many days do you want her to pamper herself?” And fuck Christopher into oblivion.
“Two or three days is perfect, Uncle Johnnie,” she said demurely.
He held out his hand. “Deal, sweetheart.”
Chapter Twenty
For the first time in days, Harley was in the privacy of her own bedroom. In her ownbed, with the covers drawn to her chin. It didn’t make her happy that she would have to leave again. If Mommie and Daddy were cruel enough to force her away, Harley had absolutely no plans of talking to Aunt Zoann, especially about Ryan. He was a jackass.
The entire walk home with Daddy so she could get a few more outfits, Harley thought of ways to change her parents’ minds. Her only solution was to have them come in and find her in bed, so she was willing herself to fall asleep. Her parents would never wake her up and force her out into the cold stormy night.
