“Cort is sending it. Just bring you home.”
“Bend.”
I lean forward and she kisses me. “You look happier. I’m glad you got to see it’s not as bad as you thought.”
I straighten and smile. “Nope. I’m good. I’m going to Web’s. Doc called them the Alpha-Bits.”
She laughs. “I like that better than soup. I need to go. Call if you need me.”
I hit the locker room and check my aim. I’m still good. Walking out from the back door, I laugh then stop that. Cort is on a tricked-out golf cart with flames on the body and roof. There are a bunch of them lined up by Web’s outside door. “I commandeered one. They have enough.”
I sit beside him. “How many.”
“Banks got a deal on ten. With them moving to the new house, they need to get back and forth. The Ms will be starting work and don’t ride yet. Aris showed me the carts so they can take the Js and Rs out.”
“I want to swing my head.”
He laughs. “I wouldn’t, Brother.”
“They painted it. That’s cute.”
He pulls up to the building with letters all over it. “Akai asked Cage to put the letters on it. Cage had Prospects out here painting letters. He didn’t understand. Paul has a sign coming so Akai will be happy.”
Fuck. I hold my ear while I laugh. When I’m calm I ask. “Alpha-Bits?”
He nods with a smile. “I heard Doc say it and had them change it.”
I would have too. “I like that one.”
As we’re walking in, he says, “No sun means you’re not walking the grounds in the daylight. Take the cart until you can drive or ride again.”
“I’m covered, Cort.”
“The worst of you is. The other burns are like a sunburn. You need to stay out of the sun until they heal too.”
Shit. “I didn’t get that, thanks. I thought he just meant the worst.”
“Got you covered, Brother.”
“Boss!” I know it’s Anton, but I can’t see him.
“Anton. I’m all covered again and can’t see you, Little Brother.”
“Tablet, Boss.” He puts a tablet in my hand and I raise it.
Smiling, I aim it at an angle so I can see him. “Thanks, Brother. I’ll remember to carry mine with me.”
“Good job, Anton. I’ll get a chair set so you can sit. Jacques is excited that you’ll be here.” Cort walks away and I move the tablet so I can see around the room. This is a nice building for them.
“No work here, Boss. Just play.”
I angle down again and smile. “It’s good to have a place to just play, Amal.”
He points to the tablet. “No work. Only seeing.”
I get it. “I promise to use it to see. No working while I’m in the building.”
He nods seriously. “Good job, Boss.”
